Recently, within the framework of Quang Binh Tourism Week 2025, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism organized a festival of folk culture clubs in Quang Binh province. With the attractiveness of the playground, and being organized at a time when tourism in the province is strongly promoted, it is not surprising that club members are so excited and love to participate.
Having participated in many festivals in and outside the province, this is the first time that folk artist Hoang Thi Thanh, Head of the Folk Music and Singing Club of Loc Ninh Commune (Dong Hoi City) has participated in a festival for folk culture clubs right in the coastal city of Dong Hoi. She said that as soon as the plan to participate was made, the club members actively developed the script for the festival, organized day and night practice with the desire to bring the best performances to the festival.
Not only the middle-aged and elderly members, the children of the club also did not miss the opportunity to compete in this playground. Thanks to that, the club made an effort to win the second prize and had a folk song performance “Homeland on the Road to Innovation” win an excellent prize. The festival is also a good and creative way to promote the folk “treasure” to the public, especially to tourists from near and far.
Mr. Ho Van Tuan, a cultural officer of Kim Thuy commune (Le Thuy), and also the Vice Chairman of the Kim Thuy Commune Folk Culture Club, could not hide his joy when he and 20 members of the club attended the festival. The club was established in 2023 with more than 80 members from 10/12 villages and hamlets of Kim Thuy commune. Due to the difficult terrain and the busy people's livelihood, gathering the club for activities and practice encountered many difficulties. However, thanks to the consensus and joint efforts, the club still maintains regular activities to preserve and promote the valuable cultural assets of the Bru-Van Kieu people and especially, in important events and anniversaries, the club actively participates and makes its mark.
Coming to this festival, traditional folk songs and unique musical instruments of the Bru-Van Kieu people were played on the banks of Nhat Le, creating an impressive highlight in Quang Binh Tourism Week 2025. The festival is also an opportunity for the cultural heritage of the ethnic people crossing the Truong Son mountains to come to the coastal city and create opportunities for club members to exchange and learn experiences and skills from other clubs, thereby, increasing confidence and initiative in performing.
According to Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Mai Xuan Thanh, the festival is an opportunity to honor and promote folk songs and precious heritage values to the public inside and outside the province. This is not only a useful cultural playground for artisans and art nuclei, but also an opportunity for clubs to exchange, learn and share experiences in practicing and creating art. Through the festival, the local folk cultural values will spread widely in community life, arousing pride and a sense of responsibility in protecting and promoting the cultural heritage values of the homeland and country.
In addition to festivals, another meaningful playground is each training course for folk culture and arts clubs. The training course is expected to create opportunities for exchange and sharing of experiences among practitioners, enriching knowledge and skills related to heritage practice; at the same time, strengthening the connection between individuals, groups of people and heritage practice clubs.
Whether it is a festival or a training course, the Department of Culture is making more and more efforts to create more playgrounds for folk culture and arts clubs throughout the province. In the coming time, it is hoped that there will continue to be many attractive, impressive playgrounds with their own brands, not only from the Department of Culture but also from related units and localities, especially from socialized sources. Thereby, the preservation and promotion of intangible cultural heritage will receive stronger and more effective attention. |
Having participated in training courses on Ca Tru, folk artist Dinh Thi Thoan (head of the Folk Music and Ca Tru Club of Yen Hoa Commune, Minh Hoa) said that coming to this "special playground", she and the members of the Club were personally taught a lot of new knowledge by Ca Tru artists. With the "hands-on" learning method, learning while practicing, students like her are very receptive, apply it in practice and compare and contrast singing styles, performance styles, and leading styles... Participating in training courses, artist Dinh Thi Thoan also has the opportunity to exchange, learn, and share with other Ca Tru artists and core members in the whole province. She hopes that the Club members will continue to participate in training courses, especially those held locally, not only to be trained and learn more, but also to be a playground for those who love Ca Tru, especially the young generation.
According to Mr. Dang Dinh Chien (Head of the Ca Tru Club of Kinh Chau village, Chau Hoa commune, Tuyen Hoa), recently, all 3 members of his family (him, his wife and his daughter) attended a training course organized by the Provincial Museum. He said that this was the first time he had attended such a training course on Ca Tru and he found the way the class was organized very methodical, scientific, with appropriate time and the concentration and seriousness of the students and teachers throughout the course. As a drum artist, he also learned and improved many skills, knowledge and exchanged and shared experiences in performing. He hopes that in the near future, there will be more training courses on Ca Tru for artists and art nuclei; at the same time, the clubs will be interested and supported with more operating funds to further improve the quality of work in preserving and promoting this intangible cultural heritage.
