Creating momentum for agricultural development

After many years of implementing the National Target Program (NTP) on building new rural areas, the face of Bac Binh's countryside has improved a lot. In particular, agricultural production has formed many specialized rice and fruit growing areas with chain production, GAP-oriented towards modern and sustainable development.

Phan Dien, a commune with a large ethnic minority population in the district, has just been recognized as meeting the new rural standards in 2024 and is changing every day. The commune has focused on promoting agricultural production through the establishment of community agricultural extension groups. Thanks to that, people have access to new techniques, support for crop and livestock varieties and product output connections. Notably, the commune is implementing two effective production models including: a model of raising fighting chickens in the direction of biosafety and a model of demonstrating new high-quality rice varieties. In addition, the commune has also established a cooperative for rice production, a cooperative for fattening cattle and initially signed a contract to consume meat products... Thanks to these models, the average income per capita in Phan Dien is currently more than 50 million VND/year, the rate of poor and near-poor households has decreased significantly.

The rural appearance of ethnic minority communes is increasingly improving.

Throughout the district, many models of safe agricultural production extension following GAP have been replicated in communes such as Phan Hoa, Phan Hiep, Hai Ninh, Phan Son, Hoa Thang... Thereby, people have gradually changed their way of thinking and doing, boldly linking up and investing in production development.

Up to now, Bac Binh district has more than 6,000 hectares of crops linked to production and consumption of products. Of which, more than 5,300 hectares are rice. In addition, many other crops such as dragon fruit, grapefruit, jackfruit, longan, melon, vegetables ... people have also linked production and consumption with more than 750 hectares. The area of ​​crops applying technical advances in the whole district has reached more than 3,700 hectares using drip irrigation systems, organic fertilizers and biological pesticides, of which more than 100 hectares are produced in greenhouses.

In particular, some medicinal plants such as ginseng and mint have also been put into experimental cultivation, opening up a new direction for agriculture in the arid hilly areas. This is a premise to increase the value of crops, contributing to diversifying local agricultural products. Livestock farming in the area has also developed in a concentrated, large-scale, high-tech manner. The whole district currently has 34 farms and nearly 3,000 households, many units have proactively signed product consumption contracts with businesses.

In addition, the role of cooperatives is increasingly affirmed. The whole district has 28 cooperatives operating stably, most of which are linked to consume products for farmers. Some cooperatives have also boldly invested in developing agricultural tourism , contributing to building local product brands. To date, the district has 16 products meeting OCOP standards from 11 communes. In addition, 8 organizations and individuals have been granted growing area codes, improving the competitiveness of local agricultural products in the market.

According to Mr. Nguyen Thuc Phuoc Hai - Vice Chairman of Bac Binh District People's Committee, the locality continues to effectively implement the New Rural Development Program for the period 2021-2025, focusing on maintaining and improving the quality of criteria in communes that have met the standards, towards building advanced New Rural Development. Accelerating the completion of infrastructure, restructuring the rural economy associated with industrial development, services and urbanization, improving the material and spiritual life of the people.

Since the beginning of the year, the district has intensified propaganda and launched a widespread emulation movement to build new rural areas, arousing the role of the people as the main subject. Timely review and update new guidelines and regulations in the new rural work to have a plan to adjust and implement appropriately in the new period. Up to now, the whole district has had 11/16 communes meeting the new rural standards. The remaining communes continue to improve the new rural criteria, the two communes of Binh Tan and Hong Phong are striving to build criteria to meet the advanced new rural standards. In particular, focusing on criteria on income, environment, culture, security and order, following the motto "people are the center, the main subject", towards sustainable and modern agricultural development.
