Vietnam Chemical Group: Last article: Greening agriculture, accompanying farmers

Along with production and business tasks, Vietnam Chemical Group (Vinachem) always focuses on science, technology and innovation to improve efficiency, towards sustainable development. Member units actively research, apply new technology and disseminate farming knowledge to farmers in the direction of "greening" agriculture - developing agriculture effectively, environmentally friendly and adapting to climate change.

A solid “bridge” from the laboratory to the fields

Identifying science and technology (S&T) as the driving force for development, Vinachem has invested heavily in research and development in the chemical industry in general and the fertilizer sector in particular. The entire Group currently has dozens of research centers, laboratories, application centers... focusing on improving production processes, enhancing product quality and creating new products.

Thanks to that, Vinachem has achieved many impressive achievements: building a smart factory model, applying digital technology to optimize production; implementing green growth projects, reducing emissions, especially owning hundreds of patents, useful solutions and domestic and international science and technology awards. These achievements not only affirm Vinachem's pioneering position in the chemical industry, but more importantly, they are directly applied to agricultural production practices, helping to improve farming efficiency and protect the environment.

A typical example of technological innovation serving agriculture is the High-tech Agricultural Research and Experimental Zone of Binh Dien Fertilizer Joint Stock Company (a member unit of Vinachem) in Long An . Here, a series of advanced products have been developed such as smart fertilizers, slow-release fertilizers, organic biological fertilizers, microbial fertilizers, new generation foliar fertilizers, hydroponic fertilizers, etc. At the same time, new farming models are tested before transferring to practice. The goal of these efforts is to create fertilizers with optimal efficiency for each land area, each type of plant and each growth stage.

For example, Binh Dien has researched fertilizer formulas that save nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium but still achieve high crop yields, or specialized fertilizers for fragrant rice, dragon fruit for export, medicinal plants, etc. Each new product is thoroughly tested for agronomic efficiency before commercialization. Once successful, these technical advances will be disseminated to farmers by Vinachem through local training and coaching.

It can be said that Vinachem has created a solid "bridge" from the laboratory to the fields, ensuring that scientific initiatives quickly enter life, bringing benefits to farmers.

Pioneering in contributing to the national green growth target

In addition to creating new products, Vinachem also focuses on technological innovation in the production process itself to minimize environmental impact and save resources. Many of the Group's fertilizer factories have invested in upgrading technology in a more modern and cleaner direction.

A typical example is Van Dien Fused Phosphate Company, a famous phosphate fertilizer producer with a "green production" orientation. Faced with the industry's green transformation pressure, the Company has boldly applied a series of technical solutions: improving blast furnaces, replacing old motors with energy-saving inverters, installing electronic monitoring meters to optimize performance... In particular, the company has invested in a nearly 100% cooling water treatment and circulation system, no longer discharging water into the environment; collecting 50,000 tons of fine apatite ore each year for reuse as raw materials; thereby saving about 5 million kWh of electricity each year and not having to exploit up to 15 million m³ of groundwater.

These improvements help Van Dien Fused Phosphate save tens of billions of VND, significantly reduce CO₂ emissions and toxic emissions, becoming a pioneer enterprise contributing to the national goal of green growth. As a result, despite facing many challenges, in the first 9 months of 2025, the company still exceeded the 2025 production and business plan, increasing 15% of industrial production value compared to 2024.

The impressive figures of Vinachem member units are convincing evidence for the effectiveness of the sustainable production strategy that Vinachem is pursuing: the business develops without sacrificing the environment, on the contrary, it also contributes to protecting the agricultural ecosystem in the long term.

Accompanying in building green agriculture

With the motto of doing business with social responsibility, Vinachem and its member companies always accompany farmers in the journey of applying science and technology into production. Every year, hundreds of technical training courses, field seminars, demonstration models, etc. are organized by Vinachem in coordination with local agricultural agencies across the country. Thereby, farmers are directly instructed on advanced farming methods and how to use fertilizers effectively and safely.

For example, Binh Dien Fertilizer Joint Stock Company has implemented the program “Smart rice cultivation – emission reduction” in the Mekong Delta for many years: building models to reduce the amount of seeds sown, fertilize effectively (using Dau Trau TE A1, A2 fertilizer), not burning straw but composting it into organic fertilizer… Thanks to these synchronous solutions, the project has helped farmers increase profits by at least 15%, reduce input costs (seeds, fertilizers, pesticides) by at least 15% and significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

More importantly, all models are associated with training and extensive communication: farmers participating in the project are regularly trained, have instructional videos, and articles in the press to spread their experiences to many others. Up to now, after many implementations, Binh Dien Fertilizer Joint Stock Company and its partners have contributed to realizing the goal of building a "green" rice agriculture in the main export raw material areas of the country. This is a practical step for farmers to both increase their income and protect the environment, moving towards sustainable production in the face of climate change. The Group also focuses on disseminating knowledge on effective fertilizer use and avoiding fertilizer abuse to farmers.

Thanks to these efforts, farmers’ awareness of sustainable agricultural production is increasingly enhanced. Green and clean agriculture is gradually becoming apparent through crop seasons that reduce chemical fertilizers and increase organic and microbial fertilizers; rice fields that no longer smell of straw burning; orchards that use fertilizers sparingly and improve soil ecosystems. Vinachem member units – the leading units of this movement – are committed to continuing to accompany farmers in building green and clean agriculture in key agricultural areas of Vietnam.

This is also the general orientation of the whole Vinachem: developing chemical production but not separating it from the reality of agriculture, always putting the interests and health of farmers and the community first.

BOX: With outstanding scientific and technological achievements and a spirit of innovation, the Vietnamese chemical industry is contributing to creating a new look for a more productive, high-quality and sustainable agricultural production. Vinachem has proven its indispensable role, from supplying fertilizers, researching technology to transferring knowledge to farmers. In the future, with a green transformation strategy and applying high technology, the chemical industry is expected to continue to be a solid launching pad for the development of Vietnam's agriculture and rural areas, contributing to improving farmers' lives and ensuring national food security in the new context.
