Mr. Bernard Fontana, Chairman and CEO of EDF Group, said that EDF is a multinational energy group, with majority ownership of the French Government, the world's first direct CO2-neutral electricity producer, the world's leading nuclear power operator and Europe's leading renewable energy producer. EDF is currently operating in 20 countries and has been operating in Vietnam since 2000.
EDF completed the construction of Phu My 2 Thermal Power Plant (715 MW) - one of the first BOT power projects in Vietnam in 2005. From this important success, at the end of 2018, the Group was licensed, together with Pacific Company (Vietnam), Sojitz Group and Kyushu (Japan), to participate in the Son My 1 gas-fired power plant project (capacity of 2,250 MW, expected to be commercially operational from 2030), in which EDF Group replaced the French Engie Group.
