Siemens Group wants to supply locomotives and high-speed railway cars

Mr. Roland Busch, Chairman and CEO of Siemens Group (Germany), expressed interest in the North-South high-speed railway project, and could provide solutions for locomotives and carriages.

At the meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on the afternoon of February 26, Mr. Roland Busch also said that he could provide railway signaling systems and transfer technology to produce train cars for the North-South high-speed railway project.

Vietnam is studying the construction of a North-South high-speed railway with three scenarios for which the Ministry of Transport has asked for opinions from ministries and sectors. According to the direction of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, the development of the North-South high-speed railway must be synchronous, modern, in line with world trends, with a design speed of 350 km/h.

The Politburo 's conclusion sets the target of completing the approval of the investment policy for the North-South high-speed railway project by 2025 and starting construction before 2030. The Hanoi - Vinh and Ho Chi Minh City - Nha Trang sections are given priority to start construction in the 2026-2030 period; striving to complete the entire route before 2045.

At today's meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked Siemens to consider participating in some urban railway construction packages in Vietnam such as metro line 2 in Ho Chi Minh City; transfer technology, and develop the railway industry such as digging metro tunnels.

Metro line No. 2, Ben Thanh - Tham Luong section is more than 11 km long, of which 9.3 km is underground, the rest is elevated. This is the second metro line in Ho Chi Minh City with a total investment of more than 47,800 billion VND, after metro line No. 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien).

The Government leader also suggested that Siemens promote cooperation with Vietnam in the fields of high technology, innovation; green transformation, renewable energy development, especially wind turbine production; transportation (such as electric vehicle production...); digital transformation, building a Siemens research and development center in Vietnam, cooperating with the National Innovation Center; expanding cooperation with Vietnamese technology enterprises.

Vietnam will create favorable conditions for businesses, including Siemens, to invest and do business in a long-term, stable and effective manner.

Siemens is a large German corporation with extensive experience and advanced solutions in the fields of industry, healthcare, transportation and smart infrastructure development. The group has 320,000 employees and global revenue of 78 billion euros in 2023. In Vietnam, Siemens established a representative office in 1993, with three representative office branches in Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City and a factory in Binh Duong.

Siemens cooperates with Vietnam in many fields, especially renewable energy and transportation. Siemens participates in a solar power project that is estimated to contribute one billion kWh of electricity to the national power system each year; provides equipment and solutions to protect and automate hundreds of 110 kV-220 kV transformer stations and dozens of 550 kV stations. The Group also promotes automation and digitalization in Vietnam, such as helping Tan Cang Saigon maximize productivity and reduce ship clearance time....

Regarding transportation, Siemens cooperated with Vietnam to modernize the Vinh station railway signaling system; design and supply 16 diesel locomotives for Vietnam Railways Corporation; lighting Noi Bai airport road; automatic cargo handling system at Tan Son Nhat airport...
