The attack is suspected to have been carried out by Yemen's Houthi group, according to information from the British military.

This was the most serious attack in the Red Sea in weeks, occurring amid Houthi rebels' campaign against ships involved in the Israeli-Hamas conflict in the Gaza Strip. This campaign has disrupted the Red Sea trade route, through which $1 trillion worth of goods pass annually.
The attack began when fighters on small boats fired missiles at the ship about 140 kilometers west of the rebel-controlled port city of Hodeida.
The vessel has been identified as the oil tanker Sounion, with a crew of 25, traveling from Iraq to Cyprus. It has now lost control and is drifting adrift in the Red Sea engulfed in flames. No casualties have been reported.
These attacks are part of a Houthi campaign targeting ships linked to Israel, the US, or the UK, aimed at demanding an end to the war between Israel and Hamas.
Amid escalating tensions, the U.S. has deployed additional military forces to the region, including an aircraft carrier and fighter jets.
