The Nemrut Bay ship, 180 meters long and 30 meters wide, was carrying more than 25,500 tons of steel from the Philippines to Vung Tau to deliver goods, with 20 crew members on board. While passing through Binh Thuan waters on June 21, the ship ran aground at Britto Shoal, about 10 nautical miles southeast of La Gi estuary.

In addition to the cargo being transported, the ship still has about 852 tons of fuel (DO and FO). The crew regularly checks and has not seen any signs of water entering the tanks.

The ship owner hired professional divers to survey and determined that the bottom of the shallow area from the bow to the middle of hold 5 was sand and coral, from the middle of hold 5 to the stern was limestone, the propeller and rudder were normal, the pear-shaped bow was dented. After that, Tan Cang Sea Services Joint Stock Company was hired to carry out the rescue work.

According to the plan, to refloat the Nemrut Bay and free the ship from the aground, the cargo must be transferred to about 3,800 tons and will be transported to Vung Tau to be handed over to the shipowners. The rescue work is expected to last 3-4 days.
