In the early morning mist covering the outskirts of Hanoi , towering antennas and missile launchers slowly rise up against the blue sky. All are ready for a combat training session of the 64th Air Defense Missile Group - the unit that is managing and operating the most modern air defense missile system in Vietnam, the S-300PMU1.
Less than five minutes after receiving the order, the entire S-300PMU1 complex was in combat position, ready to launch fire to destroy the target.
At the airborne command post, the 96L6E radar screen displayed a series of target signals entering the protected area. The 30N6E irradiation radar, dubbed the “super eye of the gods”, immediately took action. This is a multi-channel, multi-function station, using a Doppler phased array antenna, which can detect even stealth aircraft, is highly resistant to interference, and accurately tracks targets in all electronic warfare conditions.
That is one of hundreds of combat situations practiced by officers and soldiers of Air Defense Missile Group 64 every year - training exercises that determine the ability to defend the capital's skies in all situations.
The S-300PMU1 is considered one of the strongest air defense missile systems in the world . With a range of up to 300km and a range of 150km, this system can simultaneously shoot down 6 targets, control 12 missiles and manage 100 different targets. In particular, the S-300PMU1 effectively shoots down strategic aircraft, winged missiles and ballistic missiles at altitudes of up to 27,000m.
In the context of complicated regional and world security situations, the image of S-300PMU1 batteries ready to fight day and night further strengthens people's trust in the "steel shield" at the gateway to the capital.
