The kind heart of a teacher in a remote area.

Despite living more than 60 km from the school and facing difficult family circumstances, for over 13 years, teacher H'Dor Du has persevered in her work, dedicating her heart and soul to teaching students in the remote villages of Yang Mao.

After graduating from primary school teacher training in 2012, Ms. H'Dor Du volunteered to work at Yang Mao Primary School – a remote and particularly disadvantaged school in Dak Lak province. Her home in Dong Bak hamlet (Lien Son Lak commune) is more than 60 km from the school, so she has to live in the school's dormitory, leaving her two young children with her husband and parents. Despite these hardships, she has never lost heart over the years. Ms. H'Dor Du always believes: "I was born in this village and received an education thanks to the government, so now I must return to help the children of my village learn to read and write."

As a member of the M'nong ethnic group, Ms. H'Dor Du understands the customs and circumstances of M'nong students. Therefore, she was entrusted by the school leadership with teaching first grade – the foundational class for their education. For many years, she has volunteered to teach at a remote school branch, nearly 5 km from the main school, where 100% of the students are M'nong. Every day, she diligently teaches them, patiently guiding them through each stroke and sound. Thanks to her efforts, for many years, the percentage of students completing the first grade has been high, with few students dropping out or leaving school midway.

The class, led by teacher H'Dor Du, is dressed in traditional M'nong brocade costumes.

Not only is she dedicated to teaching, but Ms. H'Dor Du is also an exemplary and creative homeroom teacher in establishing classroom discipline. She always teaches her students to keep their books and school supplies clean and tidy. Outside of class, she encourages academically strong students to help weaker ones, and she visits families to coordinate with parents to motivate and encourage their children's studies. She shared: "Most of the students here come from very difficult circumstances, and their parents have limited resources to supervise them. Therefore, to ensure they are not disadvantaged, teachers must be close to them, show them love, and help them as much as possible so that they can keep up with their peers."

In addition, Ms. H'Dor Du is particularly concerned with educating students in life skills and preserving ethnic culture. She collaborates with parents to sew traditional M'nong brocade uniforms for the children to wear daily and during festivals, cultural activities, and extracurricular events. Ms. Dinh Thi Lieu, Deputy Principal of Yang Mao Primary School, commented: “Ms. H'Dor Du is a dedicated, passionate, and responsible teacher. Despite her difficult circumstances, she always strives for creativity in teaching, and is enthusiastic and dedicated to her students. In particular, Ms. H'Dor Du is also proactive and responsible in building a green, clean, beautiful, safe, and friendly learning environment.”
