The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) has officially added 10 Tesla Cybertrucks to its patrol fleet. The vehicles were modified for law enforcement by UP.FIT (part of Unplugged Performance), funded by entrepreneur Ben Horowitz. According to LVMPD, the new fleet of electric vehicles is expected to save approximately $475,000 in fuel and maintenance costs over five years.

Cybertruck Police LVMPD: mission objectives and operating costs
During the unveiling, Sheriff Kevin McMahill described the service version of the Cybertruck as “practical, powerful, and makes our job easier,” with the flexibility to operate from “the Fremont area to Redrock Valley.” The highlight of the program is its extended-shift availability: the electrical system is enhanced to operate 24 hours a day, covering the need for signals, communications, and specialized equipment.
The overall cost management priority is highlighted by LVMPD with a savings figure of $475,000 over five years for 10 vehicles. This is the cumulative value from fuel and maintenance, following the logic of operating electric vehicles in an urban environment with the characteristics of stop/park and low-speed patrol.

Changes focus on patrol functionality
UP.FIT has implemented a conversion package according to US military standards. On the outside, the Cybertruck is equipped with a front bumper guard, roof and front bumper signal lights, and side auxiliary light strips for increased visibility. The LVMPD's signature two-tone black and white "uniform" and large "POLICE" badge ensure long-distance recognition.
The rear cargo area features specialized equipment such as ladders, protective shields, and quick-attach attachment points, along with side Molle panels for extended equipment mounts. These items serve a variety of purposes from routine patrol to rapid response. The rear compartment, separated from the front seats, is used to transport suspects, in accordance with safety procedures.

Minimalist cabin, optimized for communication tasks
The interior layout maintains Tesla’s minimalist philosophy. The Cybertruck does away with the traditional instrument panel; information is displayed on an 18.5-inch central screen. The slanted steering wheel helps with visibility and knee room during quick maneuvers.
UP.FIT integrates the standard law enforcement toolkit: data computer, communication system, loudspeaker and emergency lighting control. The auxiliary power supply and wiring layout are designed for 24-hour operation, reducing the risk of overload when multiple devices are turned on simultaneously.

30X body and exoskeleton structure: protection is a priority
According to the manufacturer, the Cybertruck body is made from 30X cold-rolled steel used by SpaceX. The exoskeleton structure is the foundation for increased rigidity, along with the ability to withstand bullets from handguns such as 9mm or shotguns. LVMPD recalled the protection after the bombing in front of the Trump International Hotel Las Vegas earlier this year, in which the Cybertruck showed impressive endurance.
In the context of urban patrol, material durability and impact resistance are important criteria, especially when the vehicle often has to serve as a platform for lighting systems, speakers, cameras and additional specialized equipment.

Versions, scope of application and global presence
LVMPD did not announce which variant of the product line these vehicles belong to. Currently, the Cybertruck is reduced to 2 options: AWD and Cyberbeast. Official information is limited to the UP.FIT conversion package and the service equipment configuration.
The event of putting Cybertruck into service was also shared by Elon Musk on his personal X page. Before LVMPD, Tesla Cybertruck appeared in the police force of Irvine, California and Dubai (UAE) police, showing the level of interest of law enforcement units in specialized electric vehicles.

Quick Conclusion
With the UP.FIT conversion package and 30X materials, the service Cybertruck that LVMPD received focuses on two goals: operational efficiency (saving costs during the exploitation cycle) and protection (exoskeleton structure, bulletproof according to the manufacturer). The minimalist cabin layout, combined with reinforced communication and emergency power systems, is aimed at being ready for long shifts. The deployment in Las Vegas extends the list of law enforcement agencies using Cybertruck, from Irvine to Dubai, showing that the dedicated electric vehicle model is entering the testing phase on a larger scale.
