School proposes strict punishment for 10th grade male student who beat classmate to hospital

On October 31, Mr. Le Van Thanh - Principal of Dang Thai Mai High School (Bich Hao Commune, Nghe An Province) said that the school had just sent a report on the incident involving students fighting to the Nghe An Department of Education and Training.

According to the school's report, at around 5:17 p.m. on October 27, a group of students from Dang Thai Mai High School were playing with many other young people in a billiards shop about 1 km from the school. While playing, a fight broke out, Nguyen Huu Bao D. (15 years old, student of class 10A1 - Dang Thai Mai High School) was attacked by his classmate Nguyen Xuan M. (16 years old, student of class 10C2) and some others, using a billiard cue to hit D. in the head, causing him to lose consciousness.

Immediately afterwards, the victim was taken to the Nghe An General Hospital for emergency treatment. After 2 days in a coma, D. was diagnosed with a severe head injury, had to undergo brain surgery and is being monitored in the intensive care unit.

Security camera footage at the shop shows a group of about 8-9 students surrounding a billiard table, then a male student suddenly used a stick to hit the victim repeatedly, causing him to collapse. According to relatives, the victim only stopped by the shop to call his friend home when he was suddenly beaten, even though there had been no previous conflict.

Regarding the case of Nguyen Xuan M., this is a very special case, the school hopes that the police will investigate and handle it seriously. "This student has been famous since middle school, participated in fights so the school did not recognize him as a junior high school graduate, so he had to repeat a year. Knowing about this case, from the beginning of the school year, the school was very concerned and disciplined him but was helpless. This student's uncle is a teacher at the school, and his father is also an elementary school teacher but he also shook his head," said teacher Le Van Thanh.

According to Mr. Thanh, because the case is being investigated by the Bich Hao Commune Police and there is no conclusion yet, the school has not yet held a Disciplinary Council meeting to handle it. Meanwhile, according to Circular 19/2025 of the Ministry of Education and Training regulating rewards and discipline for students, effective from today, October 31, forms of handling such as suspension from school for 1 week or 1 year have been abolished.
