Intensive cultivation of midland tea: Productivity increased by about 10%

In order to restore and improve the old and low-yielding midland tea area, Thai Nguyen City Agricultural Service Center has implemented the model of "Intensive cultivation and improvement of midland tea".

Officers of Thai Nguyen City Agricultural Extension Center inspect the intensive tea cultivation model in the midland in Tan Cuong commune.

The model has the participation of 19 households, with a total area of ​​4.5 hectares in Tan Cuong commune. People participating in the model are instructed on techniques for care, restoration of root systems with some types of organic fertilizers; techniques for pruning, pruning old tea branches, creating canopy, supplementing nutrition for tea trees; support of 70% of fertilizer materials according to regulations...

After 5 months of implementation (from April 2023 to present), the model has shown positive results. The 3 indicators of growth, pests and diseases, productivity and quality all have positive changes. In particular, the productivity is about 10% higher than normal care (fresh tea bud productivity reaches 69kg/sao, 7kg/sao higher than tea plants outside the model). In terms of quality, tea products in the model have an astringent taste, sweet aftertaste, strong green rice aroma, and a green-yellow water color...

With the achieved results, people participating in the model and local authorities requested continued support to expand the area in the coming time.

In Thai Nguyen city, there are currently nearly 1,500 hectares of tea, of which the midland tea area accounts for more than 10%, concentrated in Tan Cuong and Phuc Triu communes.
