Thanh My Tay, a new day

Thanh My Tay commune (An Giang province) is developing its socio-economic sector by promoting high-tech agriculture, linked with the development of local trade, services, and tourism.

The "inner region" is flourishing.

Those who grew up in Thanh My Tay (formed by the merger of Thanh My Tay, O Long Vi, and Dao Huu Canh communes) feel proud of the transformation of this land, which was once closely associated with the term "inner region."

Mr. Tran Van Minh, residing in Bo Dau hamlet, Thanh My Tay commune, shared: “I grew up in this area with roads that were dusty in the sun and muddy in the rain, and life was full of hardships. In the past, children had to walk many kilometers to school, enduring the sun and rain, making education incredibly difficult. When the flood season came, our generation had to go to school by boat, so few people pursued their dreams.”

Now, Mr. Minh feels excited because his hometown has undergone many changes. The central road of the commune has been paved with asphalt, and new schools welcome the younger generation to return to school. Thanh My Tay was also recognized as a new rural commune in 2022, with positive changes in the lives of its people.

“As a local resident, I am truly delighted that Thanh My Tay commune is no longer an ‘outlying area’ like it used to be. With the new Provincial Road 945 officially open to traffic, it only takes 20 minutes to get to the commune center, so it's no longer as remote as before,” said Minh.

To achieve the current level of enthusiasm among the people, the locality has strived to maximize its potential and attract investment to develop infrastructure. Chairman of the People's Committee of Thanh My Tay commune, Nguyen Ngoc Day, stated: “During the 2020-2025 term, using our own resources and the motto 'The State and the People work together,' we have built 58 new rural roads and bridges, with a total cost of over 222.8 billion VND.”

In particular, the locality is also developing a smooth transportation network, exploiting the new Provincial Road 945 to develop trade and services associated with the National Historical Monument of Commander Tran Van Thanh. At the same time, it is mobilizing all resources to invest in expanding and upgrading rural transportation routes in the area.”

Thanh My Tay commune has also made positive progress with high-tech application models in agricultural production. In particular, the commune has over 2,471 hectares participating in the 1 million hectare high-quality rice monoculture project, demonstrating the local efforts to guide farmers towards green and sustainable production.

Striving for comprehensive development

Based on the achievements of the 2020-2025 term, the Party Committee and People's Committee of Thanh My Tay commune strive to comprehensively develop the locality, promoting the transformation of the agricultural economic structure towards concentrated, sustainable commodity production, adapting to climate change. At the same time, they aim to leverage the advantages of transportation infrastructure, with the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway passing through and Provincial Road 945 connecting the province's developing economic zones.

For the 2025-2030 term, the Party Committee of Thanh My Tay commune strives to achieve the following targets: total state budget revenue over 5 years reaching 16.064 billion VND; average annual growth rate of total product value in the area reaching 7%; total social investment capital for the 2026-2030 period reaching 941 billion VND; poverty rate according to the multidimensional standard below 2% by 2030...

According to Pham Hong Phuoc, Secretary of the Party Committee of Thanh My Tay commune, the locality has identified key tasks for the new term, including: Continuing to build a streamlined Party and political system that operates effectively and efficiently; urgently completing a comprehensive land use plan to ensure development requirements; strengthening the management of mineral resources, protecting the environment, proactively preventing and mitigating natural disasters and climate change; and continuing to focus on developing the education and training sector…

"We have identified the breakthroughs for the new term as prioritizing the development of high-quality human resources, strengthening the application of information technology, and developing technological infrastructure to meet the requirements of the local digital transformation."

At the same time, we will comprehensively improve infrastructure, especially transportation infrastructure, and call for investment in infrastructure development in adjacent areas connecting to the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway to develop trade and services. Regarding agriculture, we will strongly shift the production structure, apply high technology associated with regional linkages, and promote product consumption…”, Comrade Pham Hong Phuoc stated.

Attending and directing the Party Congress of Thanh My Tay commune for the 2025-2030 term, Standing Committee member and Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Provincial Party Committee, Tong Phuoc Truong, requested the locality to correctly and fully understand its position, role, potential, and opportunities to successfully implement the breakthrough tasks of the locality within the overall new development space of An Giang province and the region.

“Thanh My Tay commune needs to focus on preserving and promoting cultural traditions and national identity, especially focusing on planning the expansion and upgrading of the National Historical Relic Site of Tran Van Thanh Temple to become a center for service and tourism development, a symbol of patriotism associated with traditional education for future generations…,” Comrade Tong Phuoc Truong emphasized.
