Another 'mysterious balloon' flies over the US

According to RT citing NBC News, the US military is tracking another flying object over the Pacific Ocean , described as a "mysterious balloon" that flew over Hawaii and is now heading towards Mexico.

Officials speaking on condition of anonymity told NBC that it was unclear exactly what the object was or who it belonged to. The object’s flight path over the Hawaiian Islands also did not pass over any “sensitive” military areas.

The Pentagon has been tracking the object since late last week and the US military believes it poses no threat to air traffic or national security. The "balloon" is also said to not be emitting any signals.

The US is still trying to identify the object and its owner. At this time, the US military does not believe the object is of Chinese origin.

The news of another balloon in US airspace comes nearly three months after a “Chinese spy balloon” was shot down off the coast of South Carolina. The object was first spotted in northern Montana, raising concerns about Beijing spying on US nuclear silos. The order to shoot down the object was given only after it had flown across the entire continental US and landed within reach of Air Force planes.

Beijing described the balloon as a weather probe that went astray, denied any spying allegations and demanded that Washington return any debris it recovered. China also accused the US of “overreacting” to the flying object.

Concerns about “spy balloons” led the U.S. and Canada to shoot down several more airborne objects in February. One turned out to be a toy balloon in Michigan, a $200 device sent around the world for fun. The Sidewinder missile used to shoot it down cost at least $470,000.
