Patriotism is not something general, abstract or "big", but according to Ho Chi Minh's thought, it is very specific, practical work, "doing daily tasks better", and that is the "foundation of emulation".
Performing daily tasks well - the foundation of patriotic emulation
Throughout his life and revolutionary career, President Ho Chi Minh constantly cared for, cared for, and encouraged the strength of the entire nation, attracting the entire Party, the entire army, and the entire people to enthusiastically participate in the cause of national liberation, building, and defending the country. From there, he formed the ideology of patriotic emulation, with viewpoints and contents on the work of mobilizing, organizing, and leading emulation that demonstrated the unique, distinctive, and distinctive features bearing the imprint of Ho Chi Minh. In Ho Chi Minh's ideology, patriotic emulation is not only to arouse the patriotic spirit of all people, although it is an extremely important issue, but more importantly, more practically, it is necessary to turn that patriotic spirit into existing material strength, to actualize it into concrete actions, to successfully carry out revolutionary tasks and patriotic works. As 75 years ago, when issuing the “Call for Patriotic Emulation”, President Ho Chi Minh clearly stated that patriotic emulation must aim at successfully carrying out the resistance war, building the country, “eradicating hunger, illiteracy, and foreign invaders”. Without aiming at successfully carrying out patriotic tasks, the emulation movement will have no clear direction, will not be specific, and will lose its meaning and vitality. However, patriotism is not something general, abstract or “big and mighty”, but according to Ho Chi Minh’s thought, it is very specific and practical work, “performing daily tasks better”, and that is the “foundation of emulation”. He emphasized: “It is a mistake to think that emulation is something different from daily tasks. In fact, daily tasks are the foundation of emulation”[1]. Therefore, emulation is not only carried out and organized for “big” things, but also for “small” and daily things. If we separate ourselves from daily work, take lightly and ignore “small” things, the emulation movement will not be practical and comprehensive. This important thought about patriotic emulation reflects a deep understanding of the emulation activities of people in life, of the real life of the people, of the core content of patriotic emulation in Ho Chi Minh. That is also a manifestation of the creativity and uniqueness in his thought about patriotic emulation.
Promote the power of competition
According to President Ho Chi Minh, the highest and most practical purpose of emulation is the independence, freedom, and happiness of the people, so the scope of emulation today is extremely broad, emulation must be comprehensive, not limited to any field, any profession, any work, benefiting the country, benefiting the people... all need and can be emulated. "All things that benefit the people's livelihood, the country's livelihood, related to resistance, nation building, we must emulate" [2]. Moreover, President Ho Chi Minh also pointed out that emulation must be for the whole people, must attract and mobilize the whole nation, all patriotic Vietnamese people to participate. The whole people's patriotic emulation includes scholars, farmers, workers, merchants, soldiers; all ages, all genders, regardless of ethnicity, religion... depending on conditions and circumstances, must participate in patriotic emulation. That means: "Everyone competes, every industry competes, every day competes" [3]; “Emulation must be for all people, comprehensive”[4]. Practice has proven that, starting from the viewpoints of “everyone competing”, “industry competing”, “everyday competing”, “all-people competing”, “comprehensive competing” and taking “improving daily tasks” as the foundation of emulation of President Ho Chi Minh, our people have promoted all aspects of activities, constantly developed and won victories in the resistance war, building and defending the Fatherland, building new people, and a new society.
