On May 28, Senior Lieutenant General Pham Hoai Nam, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of National Defense , and a working delegation from the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense visited and worked in Turkey from May 28 to May 30.
On the first working day, Senior Lieutenant General Pham Hoai Nam met with Turkish Deputy Minister of Defense Alpaslan Kavaklioglu.
Welcoming the delegation to visit and work in Türkiye, Deputy Minister Alpaslan Kavaklioglu expressed his delight at the results of cooperation between the two countries in general and the two Ministries of Defense in particular; thanked the Vietnamese Ministry of Defense for sending a high-ranking delegation to attend the SEDEC Defense Exhibition in Türkiye in 2024 and expressed his wish to welcome the Vietnamese Ministry of Defense delegation to attend the IDEF Defense Industry Exhibition in July this year, and was ready to welcome Vietnamese officials to attend training courses organized by the Turkish Ministry of Defense. Regarding defense industry cooperation, the Turkish side said it was ready to cooperate with the Vietnamese side, in accordance with the needs and capabilities of each side.
Regarding multilateral cooperation, the Turkish Deputy Minister of Defense highly appreciated Vietnam's role and position and hoped that Vietnam would support Türkiye's participation in ASEAN cooperation mechanisms, including the ASEAN Defense Ministers Meeting Plus (ADMM+). The Turkish side also informed that the Turkish Defense Minister plans to visit Vietnam in the near future.
Thanking the leaders of the Turkish Ministry of Defense for their warm welcome, Senior Lieutenant General Pham Hoai Nam recalled the good impression he had when accompanying Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on an official visit to Turkey; affirming that the delegation's working trip aimed to substantially implement the areas of cooperation agreed upon by the two sides' senior leaders, towards the Vietnam-Turkey Comprehensive Partnership in the coming time.
Agreeing with the proposals of the Turkish side, Deputy Minister Alpaslan Kavaklioglu agreed that the two sides need to promote the exchange of delegations, especially high-level delegations, and aim to sign an agreement on defense cooperation in the coming time. Senior Lieutenant General Pham Hoai Nam also said that the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense will send a high-level delegation to attend the IDEF Exhibition in Türkiye in July, and that Vietnam is ready to be a bridge in cooperation between Türkiye and ASEAN.
On the same day, Senior Lieutenant General Pham Hoai Nam had a meeting with Mr. Haluk Gorgun, Director of the Turkish Defense Industry Agency.
At the meeting, Mr. Haluk Gorgun affirmed that cooperation with Vietnam is a priority in Turkey's Asia-oriented policy and affirmed that with the role and position of the Turkish Defense Industry Agency as well as with its self-reliance and self-reliance, Turkey is ready to cooperate with Vietnam, in accordance with the political relations and interests of the two countries.
Senior Lieutenant General Pham Hoai Nam highly appreciated the development of Türkiye's defense industry and suggested that defense industry corporations and enterprises on both sides continue to have specific exchanges to explore cooperation opportunities.
On the same afternoon, under the chairmanship of the two Heads of Delegation, a number of Turkish defense industry corporations and representatives of the General Department of Defense Industry and the Military Industry-Telecoms Group (Viettel) had a meeting to exchange and share information on capacity and experience with partners.
