On behalf of Vietnam, Mr. Tran Quoc Toan, Deputy Director of the Import-Export Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade, emphasized that Vietnam and the Philippines are both important trade partners in Southeast Asia. Currently, the Philippines is the 6th largest trade partner in ASEAN and the 16th largest in the world of Vietnam and continues to be the largest rice import market of Vietnam. Contributing significantly to this result is the rice trade activities between the two countries. Over the years, Vietnam and the Philippines have built a good cooperative relationship in the field of rice trade. Vietnam always attaches importance to the Philippine market, considering the Philippines as its most traditional and trustworthy partner. In order to contribute to the continued development of the deep and strong bilateral relationship between the two countries, creating a framework for long-term and sustainable rice trade cooperation, ensuring the common interests of both sides, in January 2024, the Minister of Industry and Trade of Vietnam and the Minister of Agriculture of the Philippines jointly signed a Memorandum of Understanding on rice trade cooperation between the two countries.
