The valedictorian of grade 10 in Ho Chi Minh City in 2024 scored 28.75 points and is a candidate in Tan Phu district.

On June 19, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training announced the 10th grade entrance exam scores for the 2024-2025 school year.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, the valedictorian of the 10th grade exam in Ho Chi Minh City in 2024 is Nguyen Minh Anh (Tran Quang Khai Secondary School, Tan Phu District) with a total score of 28.75 points. Of which, Math and Foreign Language achieved perfect scores, Literature achieved 8.75 points.

The runner-up of the exam belonged to a candidate from Tran Quoc Toan 1 Secondary School and a candidate from Saigon Practical High School.

These two candidates both scored 10 points in Math and Foreign Language, and 8.5 points in Literature. In addition, the whole city had 11 candidates who scored two 10 points in Math and Foreign Language.

According to statistics, in the 2024 Ho Chi Minh City 10th grade entrance exam, 49 candidates scored 10 in Math; 31 candidates scored 9.75; 276 candidates scored 9. Particularly, the city had more than 2,000 candidates with scores of 8 or higher achieving this score.

This year also has a "record low" Math exam score compared to previous years, with about 56% of candidates scoring below 5. Last year, this rate was 46%.

The Math exam also received mixed opinions as many students and parents said the exam was too difficult.

In response to these responses, Mr. Le Hoai Nam - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City , stated that the purpose of the 10th grade entrance exam is to ensure differentiation requirements to select better and more talented students to enter top schools, and good and average students to enter suitable high schools.

Therefore, difficult exam questions do not affect admission requirements or candidates' choice of preferences, because the questions are generally difficult.

According to the plan, after the Department of Education and Training announces the 10th grade exam scores, from June 21 to 24, candidates will submit their appeal applications to the secondary school where they studied in 9th grade.

The benchmark scores for specialized and integrated grade 10 will be announced on June 24. Successful candidates will submit their admission applications to the schools they have been admitted to from June 25 to 4 p.m. on June 29. Candidates who do not submit their admission applications will have their names removed from the school's admission list.

On June 30, the Department of Education and Training announced the results of the re-examination and from July 2 to 4, approved the additional list of admitted candidates after the re-examination.

On July 5, schools will organize to receive additional admissions to specialized and integrated classes after re-examination if any.

On July 10, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training will hold a meeting with the steering committee for the 10th grade exam of high schools to unify the benchmark scores for the regular 10th grade. Immediately after that, the department will announce the benchmark scores and the list of candidates admitted to grade 10 for the 2024-2025 school year.

In 2024, Ho Chi Minh City has 98,681 candidates registered for the 10th grade entrance exam, of which public high schools recruit more than 77,300 candidates.

The 10th grade entrance exam will be held on June 6-7, with candidates taking three subjects: Math, Literature (120 minutes) and Foreign Language (90 minutes). Candidates registering for specialized classes will have to take the corresponding additional test within 150 minutes.

Of which, 98,418 candidates took the Literature exam, 263 were absent. 98,375 candidates took the Foreign Language exam, 306 were absent. 98,361 candidates took the Math exam, 320 were absent. 7,574 candidates took the specialized exam, 50 were absent.
