On March 25-26, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Hang attended the 2nd HSBC Global Investment Conference (GIS) held in Hong Kong, China.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang was the main guest at the seminar “Vietnam - The Next Investment Destination”, with the participation of many regional leaders of HSBC Bank and leaders of large corporations in the world.
Speaking at the seminar, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang emphasized that the world is in a period of profound and turning point transformation, posing many challenges but also bringing great opportunities for economies and the business community. This is the time when governments and businesses need to make appropriate decisions and directions to shape the future.
Sharing about Vietnam's economic development policies and viewpoints, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang affirmed that after 40 years of Doi Moi with great achievements, Vietnam is entering a new era of development with the highest determination and strongest spirit to successfully realize the country's development goals and aspirations by 2030 and 2045.
Vietnam is resolutely continuing reforms with a new spirit and new thinking, focusing on transforming the growth model and restructuring the economy; promoting three strategic breakthroughs, accelerating institutional improvement to unleash all resources for development, promoting the construction of a synchronous and modern strategic infrastructure system, developing high-quality human resources; identifying science and technology development, innovation and digital transformation as the top important breakthroughs, the only way to accelerate, break through and sustainably develop the country; considering the private economy as an important driving force to promote the country's economic growth.
The Deputy Minister also shared that Vietnam is actively accelerating the process of streamlining the apparatus from central to local levels, cutting and simplifying administrative procedures.
To maintain a peaceful, stable and favorable environment for development, the Deputy Minister affirmed that Vietnam persistently pursues an independent, self-reliant, multilateral and diversified foreign policy; builds an independent, self-reliant and self-reliant economy associated with proactive and active international integration, in which priority is given to promoting economic diplomacy.
The Deputy Minister requested businesses and investors from other countries to increase investment in Vietnam's priority areas such as green transformation, digital transformation, innovation, strategic technology (artificial intelligence, semiconductors, etc.), renewable energy, financial center development, etc.; requested businesses to advise on solutions to improve the business investment environment, enhance competitiveness, and at the same time contribute to promoting the connection between Vietnam's private enterprises and foreign-invested enterprises; support Vietnamese enterprises to participate more deeply in the production and value chains of foreign investors.

During her time attending the Conference and working in Hong Kong, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang had meetings with the Director of the Hong Kong Trade and Economic Development Bureau, Chairman of the Hong Kong Federation of Industries, and Regional Director of Asia and the Middle East of HSBC Bank.
During the discussions, HSBC leaders and international corporations highly appreciated Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements, determination to innovate and correct strategic directions.
Leaders of HSBC and international corporations commented that Vietnam has become a top priority market for HSBC and many corporations in the region, truly becoming a destination where international businesses place their trust and desire to promote cooperation in various fields, especially investment, trade, finance, innovation, digital economy, green economy, circular economy, digital transformation, clean energy, new materials, environmental technology, etc.

At the meeting with Hong Kong's Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Algernon Yau, the two sides focused on discussing measures to further promote and deepen trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang suggested that Hong Kong and Hong Kong businesses increase high-quality investment in Vietnam, along with technology transfer, human resource training and sharing experiences in smart governance, supporting Vietnam in building international financial centers in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang, creating more favorable conditions for highly skilled Vietnamese workers to work in Hong Kong.
Director Algernon Yau pledged to cooperate in developing science and technology, innovation, especially in AI, building data centers, etc.; and study the possibility of opening an economic and trade representative office in Vietnam.

At the meeting with Chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI) Steve Chuang, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang suggested that the Federation and Hong Kong enterprises continue to expand investment in Vietnam, cooperate in training high-quality human resources for Vietnam; actively implement the MOU signed between the Federation and the National Innovation Center of Vietnam (NIC); soon organize a delegation of Hong Kong enterprises to Vietnam to explore investment cooperation opportunities, especially in emerging industrial fields such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, e-commerce, fintech, etc.

The Chairman of FHKI said that Vietnam is the Group's largest partner in the ASEAN region, with an impressive 60% of investments by members of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries in ASEAN concentrated in Vietnam; he hopes that Vietnamese enterprises will pay attention and make better use of Hong Kong's opportunities and incentives so that Hong Kong can become a gateway connecting Vietnamese enterprises with world markets.
