On May 6, at the headquarters of the ASEAN Secretariat, Ambassador Ton Thi Ngoc Huong, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to ASEAN, chaired the 76th meeting of the Initiative for ASEAN Integration (IAI) Task Force.

This is the second meeting chaired by Vietnam in its role as Chair of the IAI Task Force 2025.

The meeting reviewed the implementation of IAI projects and actively discussed solutions to improve the effectiveness of the implementation of the IAI Work Plan Phase IV (2021-2025).

At the meeting, the IAI Task Force agreed to recognize 13 projects from Singapore, Canada, Japan and Australia as IAI projects, bringing the total number of projects to 112, implementing 70.8% of the action lines, worth 24.8 million USD.

The meeting agreed to continue to step up the search for potential funding partners for pending project proposals, especially the remaining action lines in the IAI Work Plan Phase IV. The aim is to increase the overall implementation rate of the IAI Work Plan Phase IV as 2025 marks the final year of this phase.

Looking forward, the meeting also spent a lot of time discussing the development of the IAI Work Plan Phase V (2026-2030), which is expected to be submitted to the 47th ASEAN Summit for approval in November 2025.

The IAI Phase V Work Plan will be guided by the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, the AEC Strategic Plan 2026-2030, as well as valuable lessons learned from the implementation of current and previous work plans.

The Initiative for ASEAN Integration (IAI) was adopted by ASEAN countries in 2000 with the aim of narrowing the development gap among ASEAN countries, supporting new members (initially Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and in 2024 Timor Leste will become IAI beneficiaries) to fully integrate into the region.
