At the meeting, Ms. Hum Wei Mei, Global Director of Environmental Products, ACX, gave an overview of the operations of ACX and Asean Carbon Credit Trading Platform Joint Stock Company (CCTPA), a member unit of CT Group, as well as expectations for the development of the carbon credit market in Vietnam.

ACX and CCTPA are committed to supporting Vietnam in promoting sustainable solutions and combating climate change by leveraging their expertise, resources and sharing their experiences. In addition, helping Vietnam create a strong carbon credit market that not only benefits businesses but also contributes significantly to Vietnam’s environmental goals, committing to net zero emissions by 2050.

“Vietnam has great potential to attract foreign direct investment (FDI), as well as to establish a carbon credit trading platform,” said Ms. Hum Wei Mei.

Deputy Minister Tran Duy Dong highly appreciated the sharing from ACX and CT Group and said that building a carbon credit market is one of the key areas of Vietnam in the coming time to effectively implement the National Strategy on Green Growth, contributing to maximizing resources to participate in greenhouse gas emission reduction activities.

The Deputy Minister emphasized that commitments to reducing greenhouse gas emissions are a priority for the Vietnamese Government , as Vietnam always identifies climate change as a major challenge that requires a global approach. This is also an opportunity for Vietnam to shift to a suitable development model in the future.

The carbon credit market is relatively new to Vietnam and has great potential for development, bringing benefits to the community. However, the legal framework for this activity is still limited. Therefore, the Deputy Minister suggested that ACX and CCTPA continue to share international experiences to help Vietnam pilot the carbon market from 2025 and officially operate from 2028./.
