Prime Minister: Urgently review, repair and immediately fix suspension bridge system nationwide

(Chinhphu.vn) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has just signed Official Dispatch No. 51/CD-TTg dated April 24, 2025 on urgently reviewing, repairing and immediately fixing the suspension bridge system nationwide, ensuring traffic safety and people's daily life.

Many suspension bridges are now degraded, posing potential safety risks.

Telegrams sent to the Ministers of Construction and Finance; Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front ; Chairmen of People's Committees of provinces and centrally run cities.

In recent years, the suspension bridge system across the country, especially in mountainous areas, remote areas, border areas... has made an important contribution to connecting traffic, serving the needs of travel, transporting goods and ensuring the lives and social security of the people. However, many suspension bridge works are now degraded, do not meet technical requirements, pose potential safety risks, directly affecting traffic and people's lives, especially during the rainy season.

To promptly repair and fix suspension bridges, improve infrastructure quality, serve daily life, ensure traffic safety, life and health of people, especially in the upcoming flood season, the Prime Minister requests:

1. Chairman of People's Committee of provinces and centrally-run cities:

- Direct a comprehensive review of suspension bridges in the area, assess the current situation, promptly repair, overcome, and strengthen safety solutions (installation of signs, traffic signs, etc.) to ensure the ability to serve people's traffic safely and conveniently, to be completed before May 30, 2025; take responsibility if any incidents occur.

- Urgently develop a plan to build new solid bridges for people at locations where suspension bridges can no longer be repaired or in areas with high traffic demand.

- Proactively prioritize capital allocation, and coordinate with the Vietnam Fatherland Front and local organizations to mobilize support, mobilize social resources from people and businesses, mobilize local forces (army, police, youth, women, etc.) to participate in supporting the repair and construction of new suspension bridges to serve the people, striving to complete before September 2, 2025.

2. The Ministry of Construction shall strengthen inspection, supervision and coordination with the People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities to review, promptly repair, overcome and build new suspension bridges to serve people's needs; provide guidance, technical support and sample designs for localities to speed up the process of repairing, overcoming and building new suspension bridges.

3. The Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front directs the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels to strengthen advocacy and mobilize resources to support the repair and construction of new suspension bridges in local areas.

4. Press agencies organize propaganda and connections to mobilize resources to participate in repairing and building new suspension bridges.

5. The Government Office coordinates with the Ministry of Construction to monitor, urge, and promptly report to the Prime Minister on arising issues./.
