After inspecting the construction site of Can Gio international transit port, on the afternoon of July 18, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh worked with leaders of Ho Chi Minh City and central ministries to direct the completion of documents and project implementation.

At the same time, the Prime Minister also directed the orientation for rapid and sustainable development of the Can Gio area.

Regarding planning, the Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Planning and Investment and relevant ministries to support Ho Chi Minh City in accelerating the planning work for Ho Chi Minh City's development. Supplement and complete the planning of Can Gio district according to new thinking and new vision, placed within the overall planning of Ho Chi Minh City.

In addition to the transit port project and the coastal urban project, the Prime Minister also requested the city to study and implement connecting traffic projects, develop underground space, and study the construction of a metro line connecting Can Gio district.

According to the Prime Minister, Can Gio is a district with difficulties but rich in potential. And the goal is to turn Can Gio into a satellite city, developing in the direction of a city in the forest, a forest in the city.

Can Gio must be a city that has all the elements of a smart, civilized, ecological, modern city… of Ho Chi Minh City and the entire Southeast region. To achieve this goal, according to the Prime Minister, there will still be a lot of work to do, but we must be determined to do it.

Regarding the Can Gio international transit port project, the Prime Minister assigned Ho Chi Minh City to coordinate with the Ministry of Planning and Investment and related ministries and branches to promptly complete the project documents and invite the investor, MSC shipping line, to Vietnam to agree on implementation plans.

Receiving the opinions of the Prime Minister and ministries, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai said that the city will speed up the planning and implementation of the international transit port project and the Can Gio coastal urban project.

The city is also planning to build traffic connection projects in Can Gio district, of which Can Gio bridge will start construction before 2025 at the latest. The plan to build an urban railway connecting Can Gio district with the city center is also being studied.

"With two major projects such as the international transit port and the Can Gio coastal urban project being implemented, transportation projects in Can Gio district are expected to be completed earlier than planned. The city aims to build Can Gio into a modern coastal city, a gateway of Ho Chi Minh City to the East Sea," said Mr. Mai.
