This is the first visit to Vietnam by Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra since taking office in August 2024, and also the first visit by a Thai Prime Minister to Vietnam in more than 10 years.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh went to the car door to welcome the Prime Minister of Thailand. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh invited Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to step up to the podium of honor.

Under the fluttering national flags of the two countries, in a solemn atmosphere, the national anthems of Thailand and Vietnam were celebrated.

Amidst majestic music, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh invited Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to inspect the Guard of Honour of the Vietnam People's Army. The two Prime Ministers then introduced members of the high-ranking delegations of the two countries attending the welcoming ceremony; together they witnessed the welcoming parade of the Guard of Honour of the Vietnam People's Army.

After the welcoming ceremony, the two Prime Ministers moved to the Government Headquarters to hold a closed meeting and co-chair the 4th Vietnam - Thailand Joint Cabinet Retreat (JCR).

The two Prime Ministers moved from the Presidential Palace to the Government Headquarters for a closed meeting and co-chaired a joint Cabinet meeting.

The two Prime Ministers will witness the signing ceremony, exchange documents and meet the press to announce the joint Cabinet meeting.

Before the welcoming ceremony, the Thai Prime Minister laid a wreath at the Monument to Heroes and Martyrs on Bac Son Street; laid flowers and visited President Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum.

Vietnam and Thailand established diplomatic relations in August 1976 and upgraded the relationship to a Strategic Partnership in 2013. The two countries will celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026.

Thailand is Vietnam's largest trading partner in ASEAN. Two-way trade turnover in 2024 is expected to reach over 20.2 billion USD, up 6.6% compared to 2023.

The leaders of the two countries agreed to promote the implementation of the "Three Connectivity" Strategy in three areas: supply chains, businesses and localities of the two countries, and sustainable growth strategies.
