(Chinhphu.vn) - On the afternoon of April 4, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Spanish Ambassador Carmen Cano de Lasala for a courtesy visit on the occasion of starting her term in Vietnam.

At the reception, Prime Minister Pham Minh congratulated Spanish Ambassador Carmen Cano de Lasala on taking office in Vietnam at a time when the two countries are celebrating the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Strategic Partnership towards the future (2009-2024); affirming that Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to bring the Strategic Partnership with Spain to a new level, commensurate with the cooperation potential of the two sides.

In terms of politics and diplomacy, the Prime Minister suggested that the two sides increase delegation exchanges and contacts at all levels and continue to effectively implement bilateral cooperation mechanisms.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh invited Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez to pay an official visit to Vietnam soon; thanked Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez for his invitation to visit Spain and asked the Foreign Ministries of the two countries to arrange the visit at an appropriate time.

Regarding economics and trade, the Prime Minister suggested that the two countries take full advantage of the opportunities brought about by the EVFTA; asked Spain to open its market to Vietnamese goods, especially agricultural, electronic, and textile products; and affirmed that Vietnam is ready to welcome high-quality Spanish goods.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh welcomed Spain's opening of the Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam in 2023, and asked Ambassador Carmen Cano de Lasala to encourage Spanish businesses to increase investment in Vietnam in areas where Spain has strengths, such as transport infrastructure, renewable energy, tourism, education, especially training of high-quality human resources, and transfer of science and technology. The Prime Minister suggested that the two countries soon hold the first meeting of the Joint Committee on Economic, Trade and Investment Cooperation.

Sharing the opinions of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Ambassador Carmen Cano de Lasala emphasized that Spanish businesses increasingly want to cooperate with Vietnam, proposing four key areas for the two countries to promote cooperation in the coming time, including infrastructure, renewable energy, defense and tourism. The Ambassador said that these are areas in which Spain has strengths, is ready to cooperate, invest, share experiences and support Vietnam in the process of developing high-speed railways, energy transition and tourism development.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that he will send relevant ministries and agencies to visit Spain to discuss cooperation and investment opportunities in the above fields. In addition, the Prime Minister suggested that the two countries promote cooperation in culture, education and sports, in which Spain should consider opening a Spanish Cultural Center in Vietnam and coordinate with relevant Vietnamese agencies to open more centers and departments teaching Spanish in Vietnam.

Agreeing with the Prime Minister's opinions, the Spanish Ambassador said that he is coordinating with the Embassies of Latin American countries in Vietnam to organize the first international scientific conference on teaching Spanish in Vietnam, hoping that Vietnam will include Spanish in the curriculum of the high school system.

Regarding the East Sea issue, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked Spain to continue to speak up to uphold the rule of law in the East Sea, support the stance of Vietnam and ASEAN on resolving disputes by peaceful means, complying with international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982).

The Prime Minister wished Ambassador Carmen Cano de Lasala a successful term in Vietnam, affirming that Vietnamese ministries and sectors will do their utmost to support the Ambassador in fulfilling her responsibilities in Vietnam.

Ambassador Carmen Cano de Lasala thanked Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh for taking the time to meet her, agreed with the Prime Minister's opinions and affirmed that she will make every effort to contribute to the development of the Vietnam-Spain Strategic Partnership towards the future.
