Promoting ASEAN-China cooperation in cultural heritage conservation

With the theme "Unlocking the Key to Development in Cultural Preservation", the ASEAN-China Cultural Heritage Dialogue Forum focuses on exploring the depth of cultural heritage between ASEAN countries and China, promoting bilateral cooperation and exchanges in inheriting, protecting and sustainably developing cultural heritage, and promoting humanistic exchanges.

On June 20, in Tianshui City, Gansu Province, China, the ASEAN-China Cultural Heritage Dialogue Forum was jointly organized by the Press Office of the Gansu Provincial People's Government and the China Foreign Publications and Distribution Center, aiming to deepen exchanges and cooperation in the field of cultural heritage protection, promote exchanges and mutual learning between civilizations, and strengthen relations between China and ASEAN.

More than 150 delegates including government officials, international organizations; experts and scholars in the field of culture; representatives of universities, research institutions, media agencies, museums and youth representatives from ASEAN countries and China attended the Forum.

Speaking at the Forum, Mr. Yu Yunquan, Deputy Director of the Chinese Foreign Affairs Bureau, emphasized that 2025 is the "China-ASEAN Year of Humanitarian Exchanges"; the continuous exploration of ways for exchange, cooperation, innovation and sustainable development in the field of cultural heritage between China and ASEAN is a vivid practice, in line with the trend of the times, creating a solid foundation of friendship, aiming to bring sustainable momentum to the development of bilateral relations. This is an international exchange platform, widely supported by all walks of life, contributing to connecting ideas with practice, promoting the sharing of valuable experiences in the cultural field.

Ms. Ma Yuping, Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Propaganda Department of the Gansu Provincial Party Committee, said that China and ASEAN have many similarities in geography and culture, and that learning about the origins of civilizations and strengthening cultural cooperation will contribute to promoting high-quality development for both sides. This event aims to enhance the exchange of experiences in preserving cultural heritage, promote international cultural cooperation among countries in the Asian region, and share the rich cultural resources and advantages in science , technology and cultural preservation techniques of this locality with countries in the region.

Participating in the Forum online, Ms. Irina Bokova, former Director-General of UNESCO, highly appreciated the significance of the event as an important platform to promote friendship and enhance understanding between ASEAN countries and China; emphasizing that cultural heritage not only represents the past, but is also a powerful resource that can stimulate creativity, promote tolerance in society and economic growth, create jobs, promote tourism development, strengthen national identity; encourage people to respect diversity, have open dialogue, love peace, and contribute to creating a sustainable society.

At the forum, speakers from ASEAN countries and China participated in roundtable discussions, shared practical experiences in cultural heritage conservation activities, and recommended promoting ASEAN-China youth to pay more attention and participate in the field of cultural heritage, combining both "inheritance in life" and "technology empowerment", ensuring youth participation and cooperation on the international level, promoting the conservation, inheritance and creative use of cultural heritage between ASEAN and China.

Within the framework of the Forum, from June 18 to 21, delegates visited and surveyed local cultural heritages such as Maijishan Grottoes and Fuxi Temple, experienced the long history and rich cultural resources of the locality, and discussed directions for cooperation in preserving and promoting cultural heritages in the coming time.
