Comrade Hoang Quoc Khanh, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee spoke at the seminar.

Speaking at the opening of the seminar, Mr. Hoang Quoc Khanh, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, emphasized: In recent times, Lao Cai province has issued many policies and orientations to plan for green and sustainable tourism development, creatively and flexibly applying appropriate solutions to promote tourism development according to three main pillars: Environment, economy and society. The province has also developed and issued the Lao Cai Tourism Destination Management Index (DTMI) to serve as a basis for assessing the impact of tourism development on the environment, natural landscapes, tourism resources and local culture, creating conditions for businesses and local communities to develop sustainable tourism, minimizing negative impacts on nature and society.

The Standing Vice Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee hopes that the opinions discussed in the seminar will contribute to further deepening the vision, as well as the core values in persistently maintaining the principles of sustainable development of Lao Cai tourism industry.

Speaking at the seminar, experts, scientists, managers, and domestic and foreign tourism businesses all affirmed: Green tourism is a common trend of sustainable tourism in the world, especially in the context of the global environment facing climate change and profound changes, including the impact of consumer behavior. To overcome this situation, developing “green tourism” is no longer an option, but has become an inevitable requirement.

Delegates discussed at the seminar.

At the seminar, delegates also exchanged and discussed raising awareness and proposing green transformation solutions for tourism in Lao Cai province. From there, they connected, shared, learned, and consulted experiences in developing green tourism and sustainable tourism with the region and internationally.

In order to effectively promote green tourism connections, Ms. Cao Thi Ngoc Lan, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Tourism Association, said that Lao Cai needs to strengthen connections in the tourism value chain with solutions: Building a green supply chain, committing to minimizing environmental impacts, because there cannot be a green tour if the destination is not green, the means of transport still pollutes, and restaurants still use disposable plastic. Ms. Cao Thi Ngoc Lan commented: Lao Cai needs to identify the green-conscious tourist segment as a group of customers with a high sense of responsibility for environmental protection and are willing to pay a high price. Therefore, it is necessary to build green destinations with clear messages, applying digital media to promote green tourism products.

In particular, green tourism models help tourists experience life like local people in Chiang Mai, becoming an attractive destination. "Lao Cai can completely apply all green initiatives similar to Thailand, but it is necessary to set out a clear implementation roadmap, and focus on promoting initiatives associated with the community and national identity" - Mr. Somrit Haikum emphasized.
