Promoting and deepening Vietnam-US defense cooperation

(CPV) - President Luong Cuong emphasized that the bilateral defense cooperation has continued to have new and effective developments in recent times, in accordance with signed documents and agreements between the two countries; at the same time, he suggested that the two sides continue to promote and deepen bilateral defense cooperation through the exchange of delegations at all levels, especially high-level delegations; effectively maintain existing cooperation mechanisms; promote cooperation in training, military medicine, military history, etc.

On the afternoon of December 17, at the Presidential Palace,President Luong Cuong received Lieutenant General Khrenin Viktor Gennadievich, Minister of Defense of the Republic of Belarus, who is on an official visit to Vietnam and attending the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024.

Welcoming Minister Viktor Gennadievich, who led a delegation from the Belarusian Ministry of Defense to visit Vietnam, the President affirmed that the Party, State, Army and people of Vietnam always attach importance to the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Belarus, which has been nurtured by the leaders and people of the two countries over many generations; at the same time, they always appreciate and remember the wholehearted and effective assistance that the people of the former Soviet Union, including the Republic of Belarus, gave Vietnam in the struggle for national independence and reunification.

The President expressed his delight at witnessing the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries being increasingly consolidated and developed. In particular, the political and diplomatic relations between the two countries continue to be promoted, creating an important foundation for developing cooperation in other areas such as defense, security, economy, trade, investment, education, science and technology, culture, tourism and people-to-people exchange.

Thanking the President for the warm and respectful reception that Vietnam had given to the delegation, the Belarusian Defense Minister recalled the long-standing traditional relationship between the two countries, especially President Ho Chi Minh's visit to Belarus, as well as the support of the people of the former Soviet Union, including Belarus, for Vietnam's just struggle for national independence.

Minister Viktor Gennadievich affirmed that the cooperation between the two countries in all fields is developing very well on the basis of mutual respect despite the geographical distance. The two sides share the same stance on many international and regional issues, as well as the approach to a multipolar world for the benefit of the people of each country.

The Belarusian Defense Minister highly appreciated Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements in recent years, which have helped improve people's lives and raise Vietnam's position in the international arena; emphasizing that Belarus always considers Vietnam one of the priorities in its foreign policy in the Asia-Pacific region and hopes that the two sides will continue to consolidate, cultivate and elevate the bilateral relationship.

Informing the President of the results of his talks with Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang, the Belarusian Minister of National Defense affirmed that defense cooperation between the two countries has had positive developments, helping to improve the professionalism and combativeness of the two armies, contributing to the overall friendly cooperative relationship between the two countries; at the same time, he hoped that this visit would create momentum and open a new phase of cooperation between the two countries in the defense field.

Appreciating the results of the talks between the Defense Ministers of Vietnam and Belarus, the President emphasized that the bilateral defense cooperation has continued to develop in a new and effective manner in accordance with the signed documents and agreements between the two countries; at the same time, he suggested that the two sides continue to promote and deepen bilateral defense cooperation through the exchange of delegations at all levels, especially high-level delegations; effectively maintain existing cooperation mechanisms; promote cooperation in training, military medicine, military history, etc.

The President respectfully requested the Minister to convey his sincere regards to President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, and at the same time requested Belarus to continue to pay attention to and support the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries, including the cooperation between the two Defense Ministries, to develop more and more, in accordance with the interests of both sides; contributing to peace, stability and development of each country and the region.

On this occasion, Defense Minister Viktor Gennadievich conveyed President Alexander Lukashenko's invitation to visit Belarus to President Luong Cuong at a suitable time. The President happily accepted the invitation and said he would assign relevant agencies to make arrangements through diplomatic channels./.
