Northern midlands and mountains - Land of rich potential that needs to be activated by digital technology
The Northern Midlands and Mountains region is one of the regions with great potential for e-commerce development, thanks to its diverse ecosystem and rich products such as Shan Tuyet tea, Seng Cu rice, mint honey, Lai Chau ginseng, precious medicinal herbs, brocade and traditional handicrafts. However, the lack of regional connectivity, limited logistics infrastructure, and uneven digital skills are major barriers that make it difficult for many highland products to access large markets.
Ms. Le Hoang Oanh, Director of the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ), emphasized: "Digital transformation is no longer an option but has become an inevitable requirement. E-commerce is one of the key pillars to promote comprehensive digital transformation in localities, especially in disadvantaged areas such as the Northern Midlands and Mountains."
E-commerce, with its unlimited connectivity, is the "connecting thread" that helps narrow regional gaps and promote production - consumption - technology - logistics linkages throughout the region.
On May 24, 2025, the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy, Ministry of Industry and Trade, in coordination with the People's Committee of Lai Chau province, organized the opening ceremony of the event series "Promoting regional linkages in e-commerce development - Enhancing products in the Northern Midlands and Mountains"
To narrow the digital gap and promote the unique advantages of each region, from May 24 to 25, 2025, in Lai Chau province, a series of events will take place to promote regional linkages in e-commerce development with the theme: "Enhancing products of the Northern Midlands and Mountains".
Improve management capacity and digital business skills
Within the framework of the series of events, many rich, practical and highly influential contents took place such as: seminars and conferences with the participation of experts in the fields of e-commerce and digital technology; Mega Livestream sessions directly through the TikTok shop platform, training and coaching associated with practice for cooperatives, business households, young start-ups and Livestream sessions promoting highland products, connecting directly with consumers across the country through digital platforms.
Livestreaming agricultural product sales activities were organized within the framework of the Conference.
A notable highlight of the event was the Exhibition of digital technology models and regional specialty products with 50 booths. The exhibition not only displayed highland specialty products, but also introduced many advanced digital technology solutions in e-commerce, suitable for the specific conditions of mountainous provinces.
The series of events "Promoting regional linkage in e-commerce development - Enhancing products in the Northern Midlands and Mountains" is an action to concretize the major policy of the Party and Government on developing the digital economy associated with regional linkage and new rural construction.
The event is not only a starting point for e-commerce cooperation models in the highlands, but also creates momentum to spread awareness and action, contributing to building a foundation for sustainable development for the region and the whole country.
