Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien chaired the conference.

Attending the Conference were representatives of ministries and sectors: Foreign Affairs , Finance, Construction, Agriculture and Environment, Science and Technology; representatives of industry associations, export enterprises in industries with large export turnover to the US market such as: Textiles, footwear, electronics, steel, aluminum, cashew, mechanics... and representatives of relevant units under the Ministry of Industry and Trade and some members of the Government Negotiation Delegation on trade issues with the US and the Negotiation Delegation's Working Group.

The conference was held to create a forum for industry associations and businesses exporting key goods to the US market to discuss and evaluate the recent import-export situation between Vietnam and the US, especially after the US President announced the very high reciprocal tax rate that the US will apply to countries, including Vietnam.

At the same time, assess and comment on the importance of the US market for Vietnam's key export product groups and the ability to replace the market in a bad situation; exchange information and actual data to prove that Vietnam's product groups exported to the US do not directly compete with and conflict with US interests, and do not violate US regulations.

Along with that, propose measures in negotiations with the United States and solutions to find alternative markets to diversify markets and supply chains to continue boosting exports.

At the Conference, delegates focused on discussing and unanimously agreed that the United States is currently a comprehensive strategic partner and a major export market of Vietnam. On the other hand, Vietnam is also the 8th largest trading partner of the United States; American consumers are familiar with cooperation and favor Vietnamese goods because of their good quality and reasonable prices.

Vietnamese goods do not compete directly with goods produced in the United States, so they do not harm the interests of producers and businesses in the United States, but on the contrary, help American consumers access good goods at reasonable prices.

Vietnam's main products exported to the United States basically comply with US technical standards such as specifications, origin of goods, etc.; at the same time, Vietnam is ready to demonstrate and clarify concerns of import partners from the United States regarding products manufactured in Vietnam.

Although the United States is a large, important market with a fairly high scale and annual growth rate, and is also a market that industry associations and businesses want to maintain, develop and exploit; it is not the only market with potential and advantages for Vietnamese goods because our country also has 17 free trade agreements with nearly 70 major economies , opening up many opportunities for cooperation and business with countries and major economies in the world.

Conference overview

Through the Conference, representatives of central ministries, branches and functional units of the Ministry of Industry and Trade exchanged and provided information on new regulations and policies of a number of markets in the world, updated the situation of the US market and shared the difficulties and challenges facing industry associations and large exporting enterprises to the US market; at the same time, acknowledged the proposals and recommendations of associations and enterprises to remove difficulties and obstacles in production and export activities in the coming time.

To continue to coordinate and support the Government and the Negotiation Delegation working with the United States, the Ministry of Industry and Trade requests that enterprises, business associations, and industry associations with key products exported to the United States continue to provide specific information, data, and figures to prove the compliance of Vietnamese goods when exported to the United States, the origin of goods, and other requirements of the United States on goods produced in Vietnam.

At the same time, proactively raise your voice through letters of reflection and complaints sent to US ministries, branches and functional agencies to protest against unreasonable reciprocal tax policies. Actively coordinate with US investment and business cooperation partners to campaign, persuade, contribute to changing awareness, create support from US consumers and US politicians for maintaining the normal "trade flow" of Vietnamese goods into the US; call on the US to soon open its doors to high-tech US goods imported into Vietnam and have a roadmap to consider recognizing Vietnam as a market economy.

In the long term, it is necessary to focus on promoting enterprise restructuring, especially restructuring production towards green transformation, digital transformation, development based on innovation, science and technology; restructuring industries and markets towards diversifying markets, supply chains and export products... for sustainable development.
