Discussing this issue, the leader of Quan Lan Commune People's Committee affirmed: "There was no such thing as 2,000 passengers stuck at sea, but only 4 ships carrying more than 340 passengers to the island could not reach the shore because the tide was low. This situation has happened a few times."
The lowest tide of the year at the Quan Lan passenger port in Van Don district this year occurred right on the occasion of the April 30 and May 1 holidays.
According to this leader, on the morning of April 29, the sea in Quan Lan commune experienced the lowest tide level of the year, from 7am to 10am.
At that time, 4 speedboats carrying 343 tourists from the mainland to Quan Lan commune could not dock at Quan Lan port, including the following ships: Thanh Hung 668 carrying 93 passengers, Hoang Vi 08 carrying 58 passengers, Hao Thinh 68 carrying 83 passengers, Nguyen Viet 838 carrying 109 passengers. These are large passenger vessels that could not dock to take passengers ashore, while small vessels still operated normally in and out of Quan Lan port.
After running aground, the owners of the vehicles arranged small vehicles to transport passengers to shore. At 10:00 a.m. the same day, the passengers were brought safely to shore to continue their tour and vacation on Quan Lan Island as planned.
Van Don District People's Committee said that upon receiving the report, the district leaders directed the functional forces and Quan Lan commune to review the means of transporting passengers to the island communes for sightseeing and relaxation. Adjust the schedule of passenger ships to match the tidal water schedule so that the means of transporting passengers can dock safely, and do not arrange large-tonnage vehicles to transport passengers during the time when the tidal water level is low to avoid the situation of running aground due to the tide in the summer of 2024.
In the long term, the locality will consider surveying and dredging the channel to ensure safe access for watercraft entering and leaving the port, serving tourism activities, services and local economic and social development.
