The scholarship awarding event of the program "Scholarship to support ethnic minority and poor students" took place at the 35th memorial ceremony of 64 officers and soldiers of the Vietnam People's Navy who sacrificed their lives to protect the sovereignty of the sea and islands (March 14, 1988 - March 14, 2023) leaving many emotions for the attendees.

These scholarships are taken from the program "Scholarships to support ethnic minority and poor students" founded by Mr. Truong Hoa Binh, former Politburo member, former Permanent Deputy Prime Minister of the Government, Honorary Chairman of the program "Proud of the National Flag" - and received and managed by Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper. Mr. Truong Tan Sang, former President; Mr. Truong Hoa Binh ; Mr. Tran Thanh Hai, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and Mr. To Dinh Tuan, Editor-in-Chief of Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, personally presented scholarships (2 million VND/case) to students who are children of martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the event of March 14, 1988 at Gac Ma island, ethnic minorities, poor workers, overcoming difficulties, and good students of Khanh Hoa province.

Among the students who received scholarships were Nguyen Tran Na Vy, grade 6, and Nguyen Tran Truc Giang, grade 2 (living in Cam Nghia ward, Cam Ranh city, Khanh Hoa province), the grandchildren of Heroic Martyr Tran Van Phuong. Ms. Tran Thi Thuy, daughter of martyr Tran Van Phuong, said she was very moved when receiving the attention of the Party, State, organizations, and people who organized a memorial service for her father and his comrades who sacrificed 35 years ago. "With my two young children, I also thank Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper for their attention and support. This is a reward to encourage my two children to try to study well. I hope that the next generation will live up to the previous generations, promoting the spirit of solidarity and patriotism," Ms. Thuy said.
According to the Khanh Hoa Provincial Federation of Labor, among the students receiving scholarships this time, there are 6 cases of children from families living in 3 communes and towns of Truong Sa island district, Khanh Hoa province. Among them, Cao Ngoc Hai has a serious illness and his family's circumstances are extremely difficult. Meanwhile, Trinh Viet Nam has a mother with thyroid cancer, a difficult family situation, but has excelled in his studies.

In the list of 50 poor students sent to the program "Scholarship to support ethnic minority and poor students", most of them are ethnic minorities, poor families, many in pitiful circumstances.
Cao Tan Hoat, a 7th grade student in the mountainous district of Khanh Vinh, was so happy that he had tears in his eyes when he received a scholarship worth 2 million VND from the program "Scholarship to support ethnic minority and poor students". He is a Raglai ethnic, his mother died when he was 2 years old, and his father left the country. Hoat is currently living with his aunt, in very difficult circumstances. "This money will help my aunt reduce some of her difficulties. I will try to study hard to help her in the future" - Hoat said.
Za Thi Khanh Ngan, a 5th grader in Ninh Hoa town, an Ede ethnic, also has a difficult family situation. Ngan is an orphan, her mother works far away, so she lives with her grandmother. Ngan confided: "I love my mother very much, she has to work far away to send money for me to study. My grandmother also has to work hard, so I will save this money to buy books and help my mother."
Mr. Bui Hoai Nam, Chairman of the Khanh Hoa Provincial Federation of Labor, said that through this scholarship program, many poor but studious students in the province have been supported and encouraged by the Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper. These are precious and valuable sentiments, which will give them more determination and dreams of going to school.
Mr. To Dinh Tuan, Editor-in-Chief of the Lao Dong Newspaper, said that recently, the Lao Dong Newspaper has awarded scholarships, hundreds of bicycles and many meaningful gifts to children of fishermen, ethnic minorities, fishermen in coastal and island areas and people in border areas. Those gifts contain the affection of many readers and philanthropists, hoping to help the children have the conditions to study and become successful.
