Tet bonuses in general are always the top concern of employees at the end of each year. In particular, Tet bonuses in banks are always a story that "bankers" and people outside the industry are interested in. This industry is considered to have higher income than the average.
According to a survey by VietNamNet at banks, this year the Tet bonus level at each branch in the same system is often different, depending on business performance. Even within the same branch, there are still different bonus levels, depending on each person's work performance.
In particular, the group of state-owned commercial banks still has strong attraction in the industry because of the funny but always true saying: "Live on salary, get rich on bonuses".
Ms. Hoai Anh (an Agribank employee) said that she received a bonus of 15 million VND, equivalent to 1 month's salary, for this Lunar New Year. She still hopes to receive more Tet bonuses on the last day of the old year, as well as in the first days of the new year according to the "tradition" of this bank.
Previously, on the occasion of the New Year, Agribank paid an advance of 2 months of V1 salary (understood as fixed salary) to employees. In addition, the bonus for employees was applied at a minimum of 5 million VND/person.
Unlike Agribank, BIDV , an employee working at a branch outside Hanoi, said that this year's Tet bonus is different at each branch. She herself received about 30 million VND from the Lunar New Year bonus this year.
“Previously, each employee received a bonus of 10 million VND for the New Year. If we count both the Western and Vietnamese New Year, the bonus is more than 40 million VND,” said a BIDV employee.
At VietinBank , Ms. Hanh Nguyen (an employee) said that this year's Tet bonus is also divided by the bank according to each branch as well as the work efficiency of each person. She herself has just received a bonus of "more than 10 million VND".
Meanwhile, Vietcombank also pays out Tet bonuses in multiple installments for both headquarters and branches. The bonus level for each branch is different, depending on business performance.
One employee of the Northern branch revealed that this year's Tet bonus is "several months' salary". It is known that the average salary and allowance of Vietcombank employees in 2023 is up to 37.65 million VND/month, second only to Techcombank.
At LPBank, the Tet bonus for employees working at the headquarters is allocated according to the bonus/additional salary coefficient, based on evaluation and classification from A1-A5 and bonus based on individual classification in 2023.
Specifically, employees ranked A5 will be rewarded with 1 month of average salary of each employee in the year (average income of each LPBank employee in 2023 is 22 million VND/month). For employees ranked A4, the bonus will be 2 months of average salary, employees ranked A3 will receive up to 2.8 months of average salary, and A2 is 3.2 months of average salary.
In particular, employees ranked A1 (highest level) are rewarded up to 3.5 months of average salary.
At Eximbank, the bonus level also depends on work performance, ranked from A+ to C. Of which, A+ is the highest, up to 3.68 months' salary, while employees ranked C only receive 0.35 months.
At KienLong Bank, the Lunar New Year bonus is paid until the last working day of the old year (28th of Tet). The highest bonus is up to 6 months. However, not everyone is lucky enough to receive the "huge" bonus. It is known that the average salary of KienLong Bank employees in 2023 is 18 million VND/month.
In addition, some banks such as MSB, OCB, Bac A Bank, SHB, Sacombank, etc. also paid out bonuses from the 23rd to the 27th of Tet with the highest bonus being up to 3 months' salary. Even outstanding employees at TPBank received the highest bonus of up to 6 months' salary.
However, not all banks are generous with bonuses for employees, especially after a difficult year due to the impact of the economic recession.
Many banks have had to "tighten their belts" in paying salaries and bonuses to employees. Even since the beginning of January 2024, a large joint stock commercial bank has announced to the entire system about "celebrating the new year of Giap Thin".
On the occasion of the New Year, the bank's management board decided to give lucky money to all employees in the entire system in cash at the rate of 100,000 VND/person. However, that is just lucky money, according to the tradition of this bank, the Tet bonus is usually 1 million VND/person. This is also the amount spent during the recent New Year.
According to the banking industry, the calculation of Tet bonuses depends on many factors, the most important of which is still the KPI of the individual and the branch.
“Because the bank considers the level of work completion of each individual and branch, the Tet bonus (if any) will be “ting ting” into everyone’s account in April 2024. This year, many branches did not meet KPI, so there is not much hope,” said Mr. Huy, an employee of a large joint stock commercial bank.
On a forum that gathers hundreds of thousands of members, most of whom work in the banking industry, some employees who have not received their Tet bonuses have had to console each other: "In these difficult times, having a job and receiving a monthly salary is already luckier than many people."
In general, the 2024 Lunar New Year bonuses of banks are not as exciting as in previous years. The reason may be that many banks did not achieve their desired profit plans, or the Tet bonuses may be gradually paid out in the first quarter of the year. Therefore, many people are still hopeful because "30 is not yet Tet".
