Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) has just announced that at 8:28 p.m. on December 13, Unit 2 of the Ialy Hydropower Plant expansion project was officially successfully connected to the grid, completing 18 days ahead of schedule.

The Ialy Hydropower Plant Expansion Project, invested by EVN, is a national key project, and construction will begin in mid-2021.

The Ialy Hydropower Plant expansion project has a designed capacity of 360MW, including 2 units, and EVN has assigned the Power Project Management Board 2 (EVNPMB2) as the investor representative. Power Construction Consulting Joint Stock Company 1 is the consulting unit to design the project in each phase.

According to EVN, the project was implemented in a difficult context, such as the Covid-19 outbreak, high material prices due to the impact of political conflicts in the world, slow site handover procedures...

However, EVN, EVNPMB2, Ialy Hydropower Company and consulting units, construction contractors, and equipment suppliers have made great efforts and implemented many creative construction solutions to help speed up the progress of generating electricity for Unit 2 right after generating electricity for Unit 1. Thanks to that, the project was 18 days ahead of schedule and shortened the progress by about 3 months compared to normal.

According to the assessment, when this project comes into operation, it will increase the power generation capacity of the national power system, especially during peak hours; contribute to enhancing the economic operation of the entire system; make optimal use of the water source's capacity, increasing the average annual power generation output by about 233 million kWh/year.

At the same time, it contributes to reducing CO2 emissions, reducing the intensity and working time of existing generators, thereby extending the life of equipment and saving maintenance and repair costs.

Previously, on November 26, Unit 1 of the Ialy Hydropower Plant expansion project was also successfully connected to the national grid.

Unprecedented storms and rains have led to huge profits for hydropower companies. The sharp increase in rainfall has caused severe flooding and landslides in many provinces and cities, but it has also helped hydropower companies increase their electricity output, thereby achieving positive business results in the third quarter of 2024.
