(QBĐT) - More than 10 years ago, Hoang Thi Thuy (born in 1992, in Vo Ninh commune, Quang Ninh) graduated from Nha Trang College of Culture, Arts and Tourism , majoring in Fine Arts. She also tried a few jobs but finally chose to come home to paint and write poetry. That means Thuy chose a free environment for herself. Although she was trained to become a painter, Thuy is a member of the Literature Association, majoring in Poetry, Quang Binh Literature and Arts Association.
Thuy's poetry is spontaneous and innocent, but it makes poet Hoang Vu Thuat surprised by its novelty. He cherishes each poem of Thuy and cares for Thuy like protecting a newly sprouted plant. And he hopes... Poet Hoang Vu Thuat is like that, for him poetry is a "religion" and every young poet is a follower who needs to be cherished. Thuy is no exception. Encouraged by a senior and with a naturally creative soul, Thuy continuously has many impressive poems. Prestigious literary magazines across the country such as Van Nghe Quan Doi, Song Huong, Nhat Le, Cua Viet... have continuously published Thuy's poems as if acknowledging the appearance of a new element. I also have sympathy for this little girl because her paintings and poems are rich in imagery and have strong evocative power. In Thuy's paintings there is poetry. In Thuy's poems there are paintings. For a period of a few years, Thuy was completely absent. Sparse paintings. Quiet poetry. I was worried that “someone would leave the game to follow their husbands”, luckily in early 2024, she came back, continuously posting poems and paintings on her personal Facebook. And I was really amazed by the outstanding maturity in Thuy’s creative thinking.
Thuy is first and foremost a well-trained artist. Thuy spends a lot of time painting her hometown landscapes. The brush strokes in Thuy’s paintings are simple and so are the colors. It’s not difficult to read her ideas. Because everything happens naturally as it should. But it’s… different from anyone else. Thuy’s color strokes move rather than depict reality honestly. I think that’s the difference in her creative thinking.
Thuy loves her homeland with sweet, pure and simple feelings. Whatever Thuy is, Thuy's paintings express it. From a fallen corner of Dong Duong-Bao Ninh church to the small path leading to the sea, from a small piece of moon hanging in the deep night sky to a sudden downpour or wandering clouds... all bring creative inspiration to Thuy: The city is like a dream, the path to the sea, gray clouds and blue clouds on the sea, the sky is sometimes sunny and sometimes rainy, the street on a rainy day, a crescent moon, the street just had a heavy rain, a blue sunset, the wind pouring down on the hand clusters of sunny clouds very close... Thuy is different from others in the way she puts subtitles, which are both sentences and retellings like a line of poetry. Each of Thuy's paintings is like a beautiful poem. Just looking at it makes you feel emotional!
In the reality of the painting industry in the country in general and Quang Binh in particular, there are some artists who create in a realistic style, meticulously and beautifully from the strokes to the colors. Thuy does not belong to this style. Thuy paints strongly, but the viewer sees the dreaminess and romance. Thuy describes reality, but the viewer is moved by the imagination. Thuy is direct but rich in messages. In Thuy, there is no room for boredom. Thuy also likes to paint portraits. Writer Trac Diem commented on Thuy's portraits, "Looking at them, they look Western!" Here, she is talking about the modernity in the artist's creative method.
The girl is not as beautiful as usual. The face of the father and mother are not as they should be. But looking at her, viewers will see the girl's youth, see the marks of time on the father, see the kindness and gentleness on the mother's face. All... appear in Thuy's paintings, close and familiar, but are expressed "very Thuy" (words of sculptor Phan Dinh Tien). The paintings she posts on her personal Facebook always receive compliments from many artists in and outside the province. Artist Nguyen Luong Sao said a very simple sentence but contained valuable recognition for Thuy "Thuy paints everything well!" For an artist, when he has created his own personality, that is enough, that is happiness.
I don’t know when Thuy started writing poetry, but I think that perhaps Thuy’s poetic inspiration comes from the vibrations in her creative paintings. Her poetry is a painting with all the dimensions of space and time, both distant and abstract, yet concretely present.
“The sky is part of an empty vessel
every day plug many layers of fog
bag of childhood plus wild storm branch
When the time comes, parting is tied to trust.
long ago the most beautiful things existed under the crater
Time is not a measure of happiness
we are hovering on the very path
roses and candles flickering…”
(Community-Thuy)
A young girl like Thuy with such a profound philosophical outlook on life must be someone who is willing to look at life and the universe, to draw out the dialectical connections between humans and the space of existence, between life and the flow of time and the true value of human happiness. Listen to Thuy's clear and brilliant memories of her mother to see that her poetry is truly a beautiful and emotional picture:
"childhood memories come back to life"
carry the hot wind blowing across the dream full
smoke
where joys are interwoven with tears
Mother's
early season sunshine, happiness begins when time is careless
stain the shirt
Mother lulled life with ten fingers that had never worn a ring
Mother's faithfulness hides an ocean behind her laughter
salty
The cool breeze covers youth
days and months of wandering looking at the distant earth by the window
number seven blue
want to go back to lie on the porch with hair against the wall
old moss
Hearing Mother sing the folk song soothes the pain
sweet is coming true
and slept until early morning…”
(Smoke Dream - Thuy)
The poetic lines are full of images and rich in color, the poetry and painting correspond and are similar, contributing to creating the "quality" of Thuy. The familiar city is seen from a strange angle:
"lonely city"
foolish city hides nameless nostalgia
The season of red and green ripens, the wish goes through many times of changing leaves
fate turns hastily, sweeping away calculations
hundred ways
mid-air
no form is intact
The city lights up in a dim yellow light
the road to dawn is so strange
The boy with deep wandering eyes hides a bit of peace
right chest
half season of love left behind
the city is like a dream go”
(The city is like a dream - Thuy)
Looking at Thuy's paintings and reading her poems, we realize that her life is in harmony with nature. When we look at her works, everything remains as pure as Thuy's eyes, but hidden behind the prominent images are very real thoughts and reflections:
“of a sunny day
I hide the smell of eucalyptus in the house
like digging a small hole under the tree
let the three-tailed red fish no longer swim through the morning
For every dead dream, one more star
about to be aligned
that is, the water just keeps on living
and when the sun is up
wind blows through july
I saw myself walking through the door
and leave T there forever
in the blue square box very clear
by the picture reflected on the wall…”
(Of a sunny day-Thuy)
Thuy, paintings and poems-It's the perfect texture for an artistic creative personality!
