Artist Le Thuy's old bakery is bustling during the Mid-Autumn Festival

People often joke that it is the old Moon Cake Shop of Le Thuy.

Le Thuy painstakingly makes cakes from sugar water

To make moon cakes, artist Le Thuy prepares a pot of sugar water in advance. She cooks 10 kilos of white sugar with 8 liters of water. Usually, people only add a little lemon when cooking sugar water, but Le Thuy adds more pineapple, so the cakes she makes have a very unique flavor.

Cook for about an hour, then add in about 10 tablespoons of bio-malt, then cook for another half hour to let the sugar water thicken.

Then wait for the sugar water to cool, pour it into a bottle and leave it for about half a month, some people leave it for 1 or 2 months. This is the time for the sugar water to change color, when making cakes, it will be richer and have a more beautiful color.

In previous years, Le Thuy also diligently made many kinds of cakes: mixed cakes, green bean cakes, coconut cakes, and taro cakes.

This year she was a bit tired so she only focused on making mixed cakes and green bean cakes. Her moon cakes also had basic fillings like eggs, melon seeds, pumpkin jam, sesame… but because they were meticulously prepared they were very delicious.

The cake is not too sweet because according to the recipe, she will reduce the amount of sugar so the cake is not boring to eat and is also good for health.

This year, Le Thuy has made two batches of moon cakes. Each time, there are hundreds of them, spread all over the kitchen, adding to the fragrant aroma as the full moon season approaches.

Thoai Mieu loves making cakes with Le Thuy

Le Thuy's mother used to be very good at baking. She made many kinds of cakes for Le Thuy to sell at the market when she was young.

Inheriting her mother's diligence and passion for cooking and baking, even though she is a famous artist, Le Thuy still loves to go into the kitchen.

Every holiday season, she personally makes many delicious dishes for her family.

Almost every Mid-Autumn Festival, except when she is too busy or has a show, Le Thuy likes to make moon cakes for her family to enjoy and give to close friends.

Later, she also made cakes to send to familiar pagodas. Therefore, every year when Le Thuy did not make moon cakes, acquaintances would text or call to ask questions.

For many years, the people who made Mid-Autumn cakes with Le Thuy were the artists Thoai Mieu and Thoai My. This year, Thoai My was busy in the US so only artist Thoai Mieu came. The "workers" making the cakes were joined by two familiar male artists, Quoc Thai and Tri Quang.

Artist Thoại Miêu happily said that spending 2 or 3 days going over to her senior's house to help make cakes during the Mid-Autumn Festival has become her habit. "The feeling of slowly making cakes, chatting while making cakes, and talking about singing in the past, naturally makes me very happy.

The cakes Ms. Thuy makes may not look as nice as others, and their taste depends on each person, but they are definitely clean and safe because they do not contain preservatives" - Thoai Mieu said.

It is known that artist Le Thuy learned and discovered moon cakes herself without anyone teaching her. Her children in Australia also have the habit of making moon cakes like their mother, because buying them outside does not suit their taste, so they decided to make their own.

Because of her passion for baking, Le Thuy's family has a complete set of baking tools. This year, an acquaintance bought her a mooncake mold with the name Le Thuy printed on it, making everyone jokingly say she could open her own bakery.

The bakery carries the old flavor of "Excellent Actress" Le Thuy, sounds strange but also really cute!
