Tien Giang: Focus on developing businesses, attracting investment

CREATE A SOLID MOMENTUM

Along with the whole country, Tien Giang has been focusing on implementing many synchronous solutions to attract investment. Deputy Director of the Department of Finance Nguyen Dinh Thong said that in the period of 2010 - 2019, the number of newly established enterprises in Tien Giang has grown steadily, reflecting the province's increasingly attractive and favorable business environment for investors.

Business support policies, along with the development of processing industries, have created conditions for new businesses to emerge and develop. However, the Covid-19 pandemic has caused a decline in the number of newly established businesses in 2021.

However, thanks to support measures from the Government and flexible adaptation of businesses, Tien Giang province has quickly recovered and maintained business growth. Since 2022, the number of newly established businesses in Tien Giang has recovered strongly, showing that the province's economy has begun to stabilize.

Processing, technology and service industries continue to be areas that attract strong investment, creating abundant resources for sustainable development. Compared to the Mekong Delta region, in 2024, the number of newly established enterprises in the province will rank 5th.

Along with the progress in business development, the province's investment attraction is also one of the bright spots in socio-economic development. Accordingly, in 2023, the province attracted 17 new projects with a total investment of 7,830 billion, including 11 domestic projects and 6 FDI projects; 9 projects registered to increase new capital with a total investment of 3,559 billion VND.

In 2024, the province attracted investment in 18 new projects, with a total investment of VND 10,335 billion, including 11 domestic projects and 7 FDI projects; 14 projects registered to increase new capital with a total investment of VND 9,998 billion. In particular, the province has attracted many projects with large foreign investment capital, contributing to promoting exports and creating jobs for local workers.

This is also considered the result of a long period of efforts to build an open, transparent and fair investment environment for domestic and foreign investors.

One of the outstanding projects that the province has attracted is the Want Want Vietnam Factory (Long Giang Industrial Park, Tan Phuoc District) belonging to Want Want Group. This is a multinational corporation. After in-depth surveys in many countries, Want Want Group decided to choose Long Giang Industrial Park as the place to build and invest in its first factory abroad. The Group established the Want Want Vietnam factory, with a total investment of 70 million USD on an area of ​​75,000 m2. The main products are: Rice cakes, beverages, ice cream products, snacks, etc.

Mr. Tham Hong, Deputy General Director of Want Want Vietnam Co., Ltd., said that the company's phase 1 has been completed and put into production. Currently, in addition to selling and manufacturing in Vietnam, the company's products are gradually receiving export orders to Europe and the United States.

The factory’s capacity is gradually increasing. The company believes in the Vietnamese market and continues to invest 30 million USD to supplement the production line of beverages, rice cakes, and candies, which will be put into operation this year. It is estimated that the output value in 2025 can reach 40 million USD, an increase of 60% compared to 2024.

Tien Giang has focused on implementing administrative reforms and improving the investment and business environment to attract many new domestic and foreign investors. Not stopping there, Tien Giang has also continuously removed difficulties, supported enterprises in production, business, and sustainable development. In the short term, according to the Provincial People's Committee, in the coming time, the provincial departments and branches will focus on urging and supporting investors to speed up the construction progress of factories, put the projects into operation soon; support investors to immediately implement 18 newly attracted FDI and DDI projects in 2024. At the same time, Tien Giang will also continue to support investors to complete related legal procedures, soon put into operation according to the registered schedule...

Together with the whole country, Tien Giang has been creating very important premises to enter a new era, an era of national development, with many existing advantages. Because Tien Giang is a province in the Mekong Delta, it has participated in cooperation and association with 2 sub-regions of Dong Thap Muoi and the Eastern Coastal sub-region of the Mekong Delta.

With a favorable geographical location for both waterways, roads and planned railways in the future, Tien Giang has all the conditions to make a breakthrough. According to the Provincial Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 1762, dated December 31, 2023, the task is that by 2030, Tien Giang will basically become an industrial province, with a synchronous infrastructure system, dynamic regions, economic centers for industry, tourism, marine economy and urban areas; a province with a favorable location "on the wharf under the boat", playing an important connecting role between the Mekong Delta region with Ho Chi Minh City and the Southeast region; national defense, security, social order and safety are ensured; people have a prosperous, civilized and happy life.

To concretize the general policy, according to the Department of Finance, in the period of 2026 - 2030, Tien Giang's development breakthrough is to focus resources on investing, building and developing a synchronous and modern infrastructure system in 3 key economic regions and corridors including: Go Cong marine economic zone, Tan Phuoc industrial zone and economic corridor along Tien River to serve the development of 4 pillars (industry, agriculture, urban and tourism), digital transformation, green transformation... adapting to climate change. In addition, Tien Giang will promote administrative reform, improve the investment and business environment and enhance provincial competitiveness.

At the same time, Tien Giang focuses on promoting digital transformation with three pillars: Digital Government, Digital Economy, Digital Society. In addition, the province will develop high-quality human resources; fundamentally and comprehensively innovate personnel work, build a team of officials at all levels with sufficient qualities, capacity, prestige, and equal to the task; attract, train, foster, develop, and promote talents and outstanding officials as the main driving force for rapid and sustainable development...

So, after 50 years of transformation with the nation, Tien Giang has strived to overcome difficulties, gradually developing the economy on a solid foundation. This is a very important premise for Tien Giang to continue on a new path, adapting to the increasingly deep economic integration situation. The past 50 years is not a very long time but it is enough to contemplate the ups and downs, challenges and also enough to be proud of a resilient, indomitable Tien Giang during the war as well as the later period of homeland construction.
