CREATE OPPORTUNITIES FOR POOR HOUSEHOLDS
The Provincial People's Committee affirmed that the purpose of implementing the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction in 2018 is to create opportunities for poor and near-poor households to receive livelihood support, access basic social services, and have conditions to develop production, increase income, escape poverty sustainably, and become quite rich. At the same time, it is necessary to promote the construction of essential infrastructure to serve production and people's lives in extremely disadvantaged communes; and reduce the gap in income and living standards between regions and population groups.

Closely combine the poverty reduction plan with the socio -economic development plan in the area, in order to effectively implement the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction. Localities have classified the subjects and causes of poverty to have appropriate support policies with specific characteristics, especially for poor households with members who are beneficiaries of social protection policies.
Ensure effective implementation of social security and welfare policies, improve the living conditions of households under social protection; policies and solutions for poverty reduction must be implemented synchronously and effectively. Focus on implementing projects to support production development, diversify livelihoods and replicate poverty reduction models, Housing Support Project for Poor Households...
The province's goal in 2025 is to continue solutions to help poor households, near-poor households and disadvantaged households rise up. The province strives to reduce the rate of poor households according to multidimensional poverty standards to 0.74% compared to the total number of households in the province, i.e. reducing about 200 poor households, equivalent to a reduction of 0.05%. |
For households lacking capital for production, livestock and crop farming, they will be advised on the policy of borrowing capital for poor households to produce livestock and crop farming. Capital support will be provided from the budget of the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction. For households in need of employment, they will be advised on job introduction and special attention will be paid to sending workers to work abroad for a limited period of time...
For households with elderly, single, or unable to work members, we will mobilize philanthropists to contribute or directly care for them, providing monthly support so that they can have a standard of living equal to or higher than the average standard of living of the community where they live.
Organize well the integration of resources from programs and projects in the area, promote forms of resource mobilization from the community and businesses to achieve the set poverty reduction goals. In 2024, the total budget for investment in poverty reduction in the province is over 745 billion VND.
In addition, the "For the Poor" Fund Mobilization Committee at all levels in the province has coordinated with member organizations to mobilize the "For the Poor" Fund and the Social Security Program of over 446 billion VND to support poor households, near-poor households, and disadvantaged households in the province.
EXCEEDING TARGETS
In 2024, the province set a target of reducing the poverty rate according to the multidimensional poverty standard for the period 2022 - 2025 in the province by about 0.1% compared to 2023, which means a reduction of 490 poor households, equivalent to a reduction in the poverty rate to 0.87%. Through the results of the periodic review of poor and near-poor households in 2024 in the province, the whole province has reduced 890 poor households compared to the end of 2023. Tien Giang currently has 4,035 poor households, accounting for 0.79%, and 7,592 near-poor households, accounting for 1.49%.

Thus, the implementation of the Poverty Reduction Program in the province has achieved the target of reducing the poverty rate set out in Plan 24 of the Provincial Party Committee to below 1% by the end of 2025 and Plan 270 of the Provincial People's Committee on implementing the Poverty Reduction Program for the period 2021 - 2025 is to reduce the poverty rate by the end of 2025 to 0.80%.
Exceeding the poverty reduction target is a very important result in the province's efforts to improve the material and spiritual life of the people. What is particularly appreciated in the implementation of the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction in Tien Giang province is the quality of poverty reduction. The rate of re-poverty is very low, and households escaping poverty and near-poverty all have sustainable foundations.
