The photo project records Vietnam's journey of more than 30 years of strong transformation through personal encounters.
“Continued: Vietnam” depicts the enduring human spirit that is intertwined with the flow of a rapidly developing country. Drawing on original diaries and archival photos from 1992-1993, Andy made several trips back to the Central Highlands, the northern highlands, Hanoi and the Red River Delta between 2022 and 2024 to rediscover the old characters, continuing the story of “vitality and connection over time”.
The exhibition features 21 new black and white portraits of the people (or their descendants) that Andy Soloman first photographed in 1992-1993, along with 30 archival photos from the early 1990s of the people he is still searching for.
The photographs reveal profound social, environmental and cultural changes, where ancient and traditional ways of life have given way to more modern and connected communities. Through portraits and images spanning three decades, the exhibition shows how resilience and cultural continuity have shaped development, connecting the past with the present.
The exhibition is part of the Photo Hanoi '25 International Photography Festival, initiated by the French Institute in Vietnam, with the patronage of the Hanoi People's Committee and UNESCO, and the support of the British Council and UNFPA Vietnam.
The opening ceremony and talk with artist Andy Soloman will take place at 9am on November 4, 2025.
