On the afternoon of June 3, at the regular Government press conference, Lieutenant General To An Xo, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Security, informed about the situation of drug transportation using new methods into Vietnam.
According to Lieutenant General To An Xo, the Ministry of Public Security always identifies drug crimes as crimes of all types, so the organization of the fight against drug crimes is directed very resolutely and closely.
In the past 6 months, the police force has detected and prosecuted over 13,000 drug-related cases involving over 20,000 subjects, seizing 14,225 kg of heroin, 4,023 kg of synthetic drugs, more than 982,000 synthetic drug pills and 210 kg of marijuana.
Through the fight, Lieutenant General To An Xo said that a number of phenomena have emerged. In particular, there are cases of foreigners colluding with Vietnamese people to illegally buy, sell and transport drugs. Next, there is the situation of foreigners taking advantage of air routes to illegally transport drugs at Vietnam's airports. In addition, subjects entering and transiting to bring drugs into Vietnam for consumption or to third countries.

Lieutenant General To An Xo gave a typical example of the case of a flight attendant carrying drugs. After discovering it, the Ministry of Public Security investigated and re-examined the clues to arrest about 200 people involved. “This will continue ,” Mr. Xo said, adding that drug transportation by air is becoming more complicated.
The spokesman of the Ministry of Public Security also mentioned the situation of drug use in nightclubs, bars and high-rise buildings in some localities. The reason is that some business owners still ignore this situation.
General To An Xo also emphasized that in addition to blocking the supply, it is more important to reduce demand and the number of drug addicts. As of March 15, the total number of drug addicts and users was 233,906, a decrease of 8,043 people compared to December 15, 2022.
“The current goal is to reduce demand, people must fight, alienate and eliminate drugs,” Mr. Xo added.
Regarding the case of Vietnam Airlines flight attendants carrying drugs, Ho Chi Minh City Police previously said that the investigation agency had prosecuted 57 cases, 129 defendants for the crimes of Buying, Selling, Transporting, Illegally Possessing Drugs and Failure to Report Crimes.
In addition, authorities administratively handled 37 people, seized nearly 60 kg of drugs, 2 guns and many related exhibits.
According to authorities, on the morning of March 16, through routine cargo screening, the Tan Son Nhat International Airport Customs Branch discovered a suspicious shipment of about 60 kg, including 4 suitcases belonging to flight attendants Tran Thi Thu Ngan, Vo Tu Quynh, Nguyen Thanh Thuy and Dang Phuong Van, so they conducted an inspection.
This unit coordinated with the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department of the Ministry of Public Security and the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City Police to conduct an inspection and discovered in 4 suitcases a total of 327 tubes of toothpaste and 17 bottles of mouthwash, containing a total of 11.2 kg of various drugs.
