When the people stand together
During the 21-year long resistance war against the US, the Ben Tre revolution in particular and the South in general were drowned in a sea of blood. The provincial Party Committee, from 2,000 members (after the Geneva Agreement), by the end of 1959, had only 162 members with 18 Party cells. After Resolution No. 15 of the Central Committee was issued, the provincial Party Committee and people deployed and creatively applied it to their specific conditions, creating the miraculous Dong Khoi movement that terrified and terrified the enemy.
The Đồng Khởi in Bến Tre in 1960 contributed significantly to opening a turning point, bringing the Southern revolution from a position of preserving forces to a proactive position, continuously attacking the enemy. Many scientific opinions have concluded that the Đồng Khởi movement in 1960 was the premise, the hyphen leading to the General Offensive and Uprising in the Spring of Mau Than in 1968 and the General Offensive and Uprising in the Spring of 1975, liberating the South and unifying the country.
In particular, during the Mau Than Spring General Offensive and Uprising (1968), the army and people of the province, with their total strength, simultaneously opened fire and attacked the enemy's nerve centers in the town and districts, winning many important victories. With this achievement, Uncle Ho wrote a letter of praise and Ben Tre was awarded an honorary flag embroidered with 8 golden words by the Command of the Liberation Army of South Vietnam: "Heroic Dong Khoi, defeated the Americans, destroyed the puppets".
Continuing to promote the spirit of unity, unanimity, and continuous attacks on the enemy, the Party Committee, army, and people of the province responded and participated in the General Offensive and Uprising with the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign on April 30, 1975, winning victory, liberating the South, and unifying the country.
Confidence, self-reliance, self-reliance
Looking back over the past half century, especially after 40 years of implementing the Party's renovation policy, the province has developed quite rapidly and comprehensively. The province has mobilized many resources to focus on building infrastructure in both rural and urban areas. The appearance of urban and rural areas is increasingly improving. To date, the whole province has 118/132 communes meeting the standards of new rural communes (NTM); of which, 49 communes meet the advanced NTM standards, 19 communes meet the model NTM standards; Cho Lach district, Mo Cay Nam district meet the NTM district standards; Ben Tre city has completed the construction of NTM communes. The province completed the national target program on building NTM 1 year ahead of the target for the entire term 2020 - 2025.
The provincial and district road system covers the entire province, connecting with the national highway system to ensure transportation needs and traffic connections. The system of schools, hospitals and clinics has been built spaciously and standardized, increasingly meeting the needs of medical examination and treatment, teaching and learning, actively contributing to the care and protection of people's health, improving the quality of human resources. Social security work, poverty reduction, gratitude, building houses of gratitude, caring for heroic Vietnamese mothers, etc. have received careful attention.
In particular, in 2024, with the peak of the "New Dong Khoi" emulation movement, the combined strength of the entire political system and the people was mobilized, bringing about many results that met and exceeded the resolution, with many impressive figures. For the first time, the province achieved an import-export turnover of 2.2 billion USD, of which exports reached 1.75 billion USD. State budget revenue in the area reached over 6,600 billion VND, reaching 113.97% of the central budget estimate (Resolution 5,820 billion VND), reaching 112.42% of the local budget estimate (Resolution 5,900 billion VND), up 18.62% over the same period.

Looking back on the past 50 years, I see that the province has developed. In particular, recently, the province is about to have Rach Mieu 2 Bridge. This is a great driving force for the province's vital traffic to be smooth. Along with decisions such as merging provinces, streamlining the apparatus, identifying development drivers... all of these factors make businesses very excited, full of confidence and vitality, moving forward in the era of national development”.
“Fifty years ago, when the South was liberated, I was only 4 years old. Now, I am 54 years old, holding the position of head of the provincial Party Committee. Fifty years have passed, the province has achieved many successes. We all must maintain those achievements, in order to develop the province in the future - when our province is merged into Vinh Long province, it will expand the development space, helping Ben Tre, Tra Vinh and Vinh Long develop more in the future”.
