Overall thickness of iPhone 17 Air

According to The Information , the iPhone 17 Air will be around 6mm thick, while analyst Jeff Pu also agrees with this figure.

Meanwhile, famous analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that the device will be 5.5mm thick at its thinnest point, meaning the body could be 5.5mm thick, but the camera cluster will be thicker.

Chinese tipster Ice Universe today claimed that the iPhone 17 Air's camera bump is 4.00mm thick, which means the device will measure 9.5mm at its thickest point.

According to leaked drawings, the iPhone 17 Air has a rear camera placed on the left, while the microphone and LED flash are on the right. All in a long module, similar to the horizontal camera bar on the Google Pixel line.

Other leaks suggest the iPhone 17 Air will have a 6.6- to 6.7-inch display, which would be larger than the standard iPhone 17 (6.3 inches) but smaller than the iPhone 17 Pro Max (6.9 inches).

Notably, Ice Universe claimed last week that the iPhone 17 Air would be the same size as the iPhone 17 Pro Max, differing only in thickness. However, this information is inconsistent with most previous reports.

However, Ice Universe revealed the exact dimensions of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max before launch, so there is reason to believe the latest leak about the thickness of the iPhone 17 Air.

Reduced features for "super thin"

Last year, The Information revealed that the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air model will only have a single speaker, built into the earpiece at the top of the device.

This leak seems to be accurate, as recent 3D renders of the iPhone 17 Air show only a few small holes on the bottom edge of the device, which could be for a microphone and not a speaker.

Additionally, the iPhone 17 Air is said to have only a single 48MP rear Fusion camera. This means the iPhone 17 Air will not have an Ultra Wide camera, so it cannot take ultra-wide-angle photos. The omission of the camera could help Apple take advantage of the internal space to increase the battery size.

The iPhone 17 Air will also likely not have a physical SIM tray, which is no surprise since Apple started removing physical SIM trays in the US starting with the iPhone 14 series in 2022.

According to The Information , Apple is expected to remove the SIM tray in more countries this year. This means that the iPhone 17 Air may only support eSIM in international markets, instead of using both eSIM and physical SIM as before.

Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 17 Air in September this year along with the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max models. The 17 Air is expected to create a "new wind" to improve Apple's iPhone sales during the year-end shopping season.
