The first reports of Apple Watch sales in 2024 showed a significant decline. However, what is more worrying is that the latest report from Counterpoint Research has shown that this decline is tied to the lack of updates from the Apple.
Accordingly, Counterpoint data shows that globally, Apple Watch sales fell 19% in 2024 compared to 2023. This is also the second consecutive year that Apple's smartwatch has seen a year-over-year decline, while the fourth quarter of 2025 marks the fifth consecutive quarter of declining sales.
The research firm said the decline was worldwide except for India. While it did not break down sales by region, Counterpoint said it was largely driven by a decline in North America.
The Apple Watch Ultra 2 previously held more than 10% market share, but dropped below 8% in 2024. AppleInsider believes this is due to the lack of a new Apple Watch Ultra 3 model this year.
Similarly, the Apple Watch SE has not been updated since 2022. Counterpoint's report said that the Apple Watch SE accounted for the majority of Apple Watch sales immediately after its launch, so the lack of a new version in Q3 2023 is the cause of the first-quarter decline.
In addition, the Apple Watch Series 10 is also considered to have fewer new features than its predecessors and has been affected by many legal disputes. This led to Apple having to remove the blood oxygen level measurement technology (SpO2) on the Apple Watch Series 10 due to losing a lawsuit against medical equipment manufacturer Masimo.
