Scheduled to start construction in spring 2024, the 140-meter-tall building will feature apartments stacked on top of a park with a variety of public amenities. Located in the Albanian capital Tirana, the studio wants to create a building that engages the local community, describing it as “a unique vertical village in the middle of a large green city.”
The studio designed 13 cubes, in seven variations, for a building measuring 22.5 x 22.5 metres and standing seven stories tall. Three rows of three cubes will form the lower part of the building, with some cubes spaced apart and rotated slightly to form narrow gaps. Two adjacent cubes will sit at the top, followed by two single cubes to form a six-cube building.
Some cubes will have a grid-like facade with regular window openings, while others will have protruding volumes and rounded structures. The top cube will have angular balconies supported by columns that accentuate the facade.
Each block represents a unique concept that is art-related and also locally inspired, the studio said. The building will be made from locally sourced materials, aiming to reduce carbon emissions as well as support businesses.
The building is designed to make a striking impression on the landscape, with a staggered, geometrical appearance that appears distinct from every angle. The result is a building that will leave a lasting positive impact on both visitors and those who live in the city.
At the same time, the studio said, the building shows its different heights and forms from different angles around the city. Hora Vertikale is the latest high-end skyscraper with a distinctive design to be built in the capital city of Tirana.
