Australia 1-2 South Korea.
The South Korean team defeated Australia after 120 minutes. This is the second time at the 2023 Asian Cup that coach Jurgen Klinsmann's team has had to play in extra time. This makes the German coach always in a worried mood.
" I don't want to play a match so difficult that my palms sweat. I want to get a quick result and end the match early. Sometimes I feel sorry for the players because I want to go on the field to score if I have the chance ," coach Klinsmann shared.
This victory opens up the door for South Korea to enter the finals of the 2023 Asian Cup. In the semi-finals, they will face a not-so-strong opponent, Jordan. Coach Klinsmann hopes to win the championship and satisfy the fans' expectations.
" When I saw the confrontation between the two teams in the same group in the semi-finals, I thought it was a difficult match. We will try to get a good result thanks to our strengths. I dream of lifting the championship trophy that Korean fans are waiting for.
I hope to be in Doha until the last day and will prepare well to make that happen. I want every match to end in 90 minutes, not 120, " Klinsmann stressed.
Coach Klinsmann anxiously waits for the equalizer in the match between South Korea and Australia.
In the semi-finals, the Korean team lost Kim Min-jae due to suspension. This is a big loss because the Bayern Munich center-back plays an important role in coach Klinsmann's defense system. The German coach said he will find a way to fill the void left by Kim Min-jae.
" He is a great leader and player. We are very sad without him. We still have Park Jin-seop and Jeong Seung-hyeon. We can either play a lower formation or play with three centre-backs. We will calculate more ," Klinsmann revealed.
According to AFC regulations, from the group stage to the quarter-finals, players will be suspended if they accumulate 2 yellow cards. From the semi-finals, players will have their previous yellow cards erased. This helps teams have the best force towards the final.
The semi-final match between Jordan and South Korea will take place on February 6.
