Welcoming Mr. Matt Thistlethwaite to the Ministry of Public Security on the occasion of attending the signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime (Hanoi Convention), Minister Luong Tam Quang emphasized that the Convention is not only a "shield" protecting the world in cyberspace but also a symbol of cooperation, responsibility, and humanity in the digital age between UN member states, including Vietnam and Australia.

Minister Luong Tam Quang expressed his pleasure at noting that Vietnam-Australia relations are currently in their best stage of development. Since the two countries upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in March 2024, bilateral cooperation in the fields of politics and diplomacy, economics and trade, and education and training has continuously expanded, bringing practical benefits to the people of both countries.
Regarding security and law enforcement cooperation, Minister Luong Tam Quang noted that the two sides upgraded the Security Dialogue to ministerial level in October 2024 in Australia.
Based on this, the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and Australian law enforcement agencies have intensified exchanges of delegations at all levels, strengthened information sharing and strategic forecasting related to the security and national interests of each country; and closely coordinated in combating crimes related to both countries...

In particular, on August 20th, Minister Luong Tam Quang and Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong signed a Memorandum of Understanding on “Cooperation on Critical Cyber and Technological Issues,” laying the groundwork for both sides to expand cooperation in the field of cybersecurity, capacity building, and combating cybercrime.
Minister Luong Tam Quang affirmed his strong agreement with Mr. Matt Thistlethwaite's views, while emphasizing that the global and regional situation is undergoing unprecedented and complex changes, threatening to reshape the global security structure with many new risks and instabilities. In this context, Vietnam and Australia need to actively implement existing cooperation frameworks and agreements, while also researching and developing new cooperation mechanisms and initiatives that are appropriate to the demands of the situation.

During the meeting, both sides agreed to strengthen exchanges of delegations at all levels; actively share experiences in managing the online environment and digital transformation; and promptly exchange information related to transnational organized crime, cybercrime, and cybersecurity issues in the region and around the world.
Within the framework of implementing the Hanoi Convention, Minister Luong Tam Quang expressed his hope that Australia would provide technical support and capacity building for Vietnam in combating cybercrime, contributing to strengthening a secure, safe, and trustworthy environment in the digital age.

Expressing sincere gratitude to Minister Luong Tam Quang for taking the time to meet, Mr. Matt Thistlethwaite affirmed that Vietnam and Australia share common interests in many areas, and that there is still great potential and room for further development. He expressed confidence that this meeting was an important opportunity for both sides to exchange practical information, aiming to deepen and strengthen the political, diplomatic, and law enforcement relations between the two countries.
