Welcoming Mr. Matt Thistlethwaite to visit and work with the Ministry of Public Security on the occasion of attending the signing ceremony of the United Nations (UN) Convention against Cybercrime (Hanoi Convention), Minister Luong Tam Quang emphasized that the Convention is not only a "shield" to protect the world in cyberspace but also a symbol of the spirit of cooperation, responsibility and humanity in the digital age among UN member states, including Vietnam and Australia.

Minister Luong Tam Quang expressed his delight at the fact that the Vietnam-Australia relationship is at its best stage of development. Since the two countries upgraded their relationship to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in March 2024, bilateral cooperation in the fields of politics - diplomacy, economics - trade, education and training has been continuously expanded, bringing practical benefits to the people of the two countries.
Regarding security and law enforcement cooperation, Minister Luong Tam Quang recalled that the two sides upgraded the Security Dialogue to the Ministerial level in October 2024 in Australia.
On that basis, the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and Australian law enforcement agencies have promoted delegation exchanges at all levels, increased information sharing and strategic forecasts related to security and national interests of each country; and closely coordinated in the fight against all types of crimes related to the two countries...

Notably, on August 20, Minister Luong Tam Quang and Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong signed the Memorandum of Understanding on “Cooperation on Critical Cyber and Technology Issues”, creating a premise for the two sides to expand cooperation in the field of cyber security, capacity building and combating cybercrime.
Minister Luong Tam Quang affirmed his high consensus with Mr. Matt Thistlethwaite's opinions, and emphasized that the world and regional situation is undergoing many complex and unprecedented changes, threatening to reshape the global security structure with many new risks and instabilities. In that context, Vietnam and Australia need to actively implement existing cooperation frameworks and agreements, and at the same time study and build new cooperation mechanisms and initiatives suitable to the requirements of the situation.

At the meeting, the two sides agreed to increase delegation exchanges at all levels; actively share experiences in network environment management and digital transformation; promptly exchange information related to transnational organized crime, cybercrime and cybersecurity issues in the region and the world.
Within the framework of implementing the Hanoi Convention, Minister Luong Tam Quang hopes that Australia will pay attention to supporting Vietnam in terms of technology and improving its capacity to prevent and combat cybercrime, contributing to strengthening the security, safety and trust environment in the digital age.

Sincerely thanking Minister Luong Tam Quang for taking the time to meet him, Mr. Matt Thistlethwaite affirmed that Vietnam and Australia have similar interests in many fields, and at the same time, there is still great potential and space that has not been exploited; expressing his belief that this working session is an important opportunity for the two sides to exchange practical contents, aiming to bring the political, diplomatic and law enforcement relations between the two countries to become increasingly deeper, more substantial and effective.
