In order to meet the demand for production recovery and house repair after the flood in the Central region, many enterprises producing and distributing iron, steel and roofing sheets affirmed that they will ensure supply and maintain stable selling prices, except for cement products which increased by about 100,000 VND/ton.
Many steel dealers also affirmed that they would not take advantage of the sudden increase in demand after the flood to adjust prices, but would stabilize prices to share difficulties with people.
Keep prices low to share with flood victims
According to the construction materials market on November 24, construction steel prices were generally stable, with no major fluctuations compared to the beginning of the month. Some dealers in the South said that Hoa Phat 's CB300 steel was being sold at around VND13,400 - 14,750/kg, while Viet Nhat steel fluctuated at VND13,280 - 14,650/kg.
Some other brands keep prices relatively close together, such as Southern Steel at 13,400 - 14,550 VND/kg, Viet Y Steel at 13,250 - 14,350 VND/kg... In the popular steel bar group such as D12, some distributors list the price at around 13,180 VND/kg depending on the brand and quantity ordered.
For roofing sheets, the market recorded a wide range of prices, varying by product type and brand. Galvanized sheet metal, which is consumed a lot after storms, currently ranges from 45,000 - 200,000 VND/ m2 depending on thickness, coating and manufacturer. Dealers said that the price of sheet metal has not fluctuated much in recent days, most businesses maintain the old price to support the need for repairs after natural disasters.
In the roofing tile group, the reference price on the market commonly fluctuates from 150,000 - 300,000 VND/m² depending on the material, construction unit price and the type of terracotta tile, cement tile or colored tile.
Some suppliers said demand for roof tiles could increase in the coming weeks as localities complete cleanup and begin home repairs.
According to dealers, although demand in some areas has shown signs of a slight increase, the supply of corrugated iron, steel, and roofing tiles remains abundant, and prices have not fluctuated unusually as of the end of November 24.
Speaking to Tuoi Tre on November 24, Mr. Vu Van Thanh - General Director of Hoa Sen Group - said that after the flood, the biggest priority of people is to stabilize their lives, eating and living. Home repairs can only begin after 1-2 months, when everything has temporarily calmed down. Therefore, although the demand for construction materials is expected to increase sharply, Hoa Sen commits not to increase prices during this period. Also according to Mr. Thanh, over the past few days, they have continuously updated the situation in localities that have suffered heavy damage.
What businesses care about most is not sales but the ability of the supply chain to respond. "Logistics costs will certainly increase when roads are still in disarray, but that is the part that businesses have to shoulder to ease the difficulties for people. Demand may increase, costs may increase, but we affirm that we will not take advantage of the situation to adjust prices," Mr. Thanh affirmed.
Will ensure supply for new construction and home repair
According to Mr. Thanh, to ensure the fastest source of goods and distribution in this area, Hoa Sen is promoting goods from Hoa Sen Nhon Hoi Steel Plant (formerly Binh Dinh province). This is one of the largest production complexes of the group. The plant owns a galvanizing/aluminum zinc alloy line of 350,000 tons/year, a cold rolling line of 350,000 tons/year, with a total investment of 2,333 billion VND.
After three expansion phases, the total capacity reached 430,000 tons/year, capable of supplying even in the event of sudden demand. "Even if demand suddenly increases, we are fully capable of meeting it" - Mr. Thanh said and affirmed that not only based on production capacity, the Hoa Sen Home system is also an "extended arm" to bring materials closest to the people.
From 35 stores in 2021, this network has expanded to 139 points of sale and is expected to reach 300 stores by 2030. Here, people can find all the necessary materials such as iron and steel, roofing sheets, bricks, tiles, construction equipment and accessories... to help the reconstruction process take place faster and more smoothly.
Meanwhile, Hoa Phat Group said that the supply of construction steel is currently completely stable. The representative of this enterprise affirmed that the selling price of steel is not adjusted according to natural disasters, because the market operates through the distribution system. The selling price of iron and steel depends on the supply and demand of the market.
"We do not increase or decrease prices according to the flood, because selling to agents and dealers depends on the market. For roofing products, we are waiting for specific reports from factories in affected provinces to have a plan to balance the supply appropriately," he said. Many agents also affirmed that they will not take advantage of the sudden increase in demand after the flood to adjust prices but will stabilize prices to share the difficulties with the people.
Free inspection, repair and replacement of air conditioner components...
Not only maintaining a stable steel supply, Hoa Phat also launched a special support program for people in flood-affected areas. From November 1 to 30, Hoa Phat Refrigeration will completely waive the cost of inspection, cleaning, repair and replacement of components for products under warranty, and support 50% of the cost for devices out of warranty.
Under this policy, products such as air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, Funiki dryers, and Hoa Phat freezers and refrigerators will be supported to check, clean, repair and replace components if damaged by flooding, moisture or electrical short circuits regardless of where they were purchased, as long as they still have the serial number for verification.
Cement prices increased across the board
According to information from the Vietnam Cement Association, most domestic cement enterprises have announced price adjustments, increasing by VND100,000/ton for both bagged and bulk cement products from November 18. This is a widespread price increase, clearly reflecting the pressure of escalating input costs and the prolonged scarcity of raw materials.
Enterprises said that the prices of coal, electricity and transportation, which account for a large proportion of costs, have been increasing continuously for a long time, exceeding the capacity of factories to reduce costs. Despite efforts to optimize operations and cut internal costs, the increase in raw materials and fuel prices still makes it impossible for manufacturers to maintain the same selling price.

Cement dealers said they had received notices from factories such as Bim Son Cement, Vicem But Son, Vicem Hoang Thach and Long Son Cement... that they had announced a price increase of VND100,000/ton. According to experts' analysis, cement is a material that accounts for a large proportion of the raw cost of a project. The simultaneous price increase will create considerable pressure on the construction and real estate markets.
Of the five main cost components of a real estate project, construction materials are the group with the most direct impact. Steel alone accounts for 15-20%, the rest is made up of land, construction, management and profit costs.
Therefore, when cement and key materials increase in price, investors are forced to recalculate the selling price to balance costs. A construction contractor calculated that if the cement price increases by 100,000 VND/ton, the total cost could increase significantly.
However, it is a market so it is difficult to intervene, unless businesses have separate support policies for each specific area. Meanwhile, cement businesses say that the pressure on input prices has not shown any signs of cooling down. Fuel prices, especially coal, remain high, and transportation costs are difficult to reduce when gasoline prices are still volatile.
