General Secretary and President To Lam meets with the Secretary General of the International Organization of La Francophonie

In a spirit of constructiveness, trust and openness, the two sides discussed orientations for promoting Vietnam-French cooperation, especially economic, trade, investment and sustainable tourism cooperation.

According to VNA special correspondent, on the occasion of attending the 19th Francophone Summit in Paris (France), on the morning of October 5 local time, General Secretary and President To Lam met with Secretary General of the Francophone Louise Mushikiwabo.

At the meeting, General Secretary and President To Lam highly appreciated the good cooperative relationship between Vietnam and the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF), as well as the contributions of OIF and Secretary General Louise Mushikiwabo personally in promoting Francophone solidarity and cooperation for peace, stability and development.

General Secretary and President To Lam suggested that OIF pay attention to promoting tripartite cooperation models to support African countries in the fields of agriculture and South-South cooperation, while continuing to step up the implementation of cooperation programs and projects in the fields of education, French language teaching, scientific research, and French-language startups.

In addition, General Secretary and President To Lam also asked OIF to continue to pay attention to and support the efforts of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in maintaining peace, security and stability in the region, including the East Sea, and support the settlement of disputes by peaceful means, on the basis of respect for international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Secretary General of the Francophonie Louise Mushikiwabo welcomed Vietnam's participation in the Francophonie Summit at the highest level, affirming that this is an honor for the OIF.

The Secretary General emphasized that Vietnam is an indispensable factor in the Francophone community, highly appreciating the role and positive contributions of Vietnam, including Vietnamese people holding important positions in Francophone agencies.

On this occasion, General Secretary and President To Lam invited Secretary General of the Francophone Louise Mushikiwabo to visit Vietnam in the coming time./.
