General Secretary proposes Vietnam and Ethiopia soon open representative offices

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali and his wife Zinash Tayachew are on an official visit to Vietnam and attending the fourth Partnership for Green Growth and the Global Goals (P4G) Summit from April 14-17.

This evening, General Secretary To Lam received Ethiopian Prime Minister and Chairman of the Prosperity Party (PP) Abiy Ahmed Ali.

The General Secretary said that the visit will bring the relationship between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Prosperity Party as well as the relationship between the two countries to a new stage.

The Ethiopian Prime Minister's official visit to Vietnam is the first visit to Vietnam by a senior Ethiopian leader since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1976, and is also the first high-level delegation exchange between the two countries in seven years.

The General Secretary affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to friendship and cooperation with African friends, including Ethiopia.

The General Secretary suggested that the two sides study and identify a number of priority areas of cooperation in the coming period based on the potential and needs of both sides, especially in the fields of agriculture, trade, investment, science and technology, and connecting people and businesses. The General Secretary welcomed the plan of Ethiopian Airlines to launch a new route from Addis Ababa to Hanoi in July 2025. This is the first route directly connecting Vietnam with Africa.

Visiting Vietnam for the first time, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali thanked Vietnam for its warm and friendly welcome. He expressed his admiration for the Vietnamese people's history of steadfast struggle for independence and freedom and their remarkable achievements in development.

He hopes that Vietnam will share its experience in rapid and sustainable socio-economic development and environmental protection.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali said that the Prosperity Party is currently one of the largest political parties in Africa with more than 15 million members. He said that the two parties have similarities to share and learn from each other's experiences. The Party, State and Government of Ethiopia wish to develop cooperative relations in many fields with Vietnam, especially investment, science and technology, agriculture, education and training, and people-to-people exchange.
