This evening, General Secretary To Lam received Ethiopian Prime Minister and Chairman of the Prosperity Party (PP) Abiy Ahmed Ali.
The General Secretary said that the visit will bring the relationship between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Prosperity Party as well as the relationship between the two countries to a new stage.

The General Secretary affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to friendship and cooperation with African friends, including Ethiopia.
The General Secretary suggested that the two sides study and identify a number of priority areas of cooperation in the coming period based on the potential and needs of both sides, especially in the fields of agriculture, trade, investment, science and technology, and connecting people and businesses. The General Secretary welcomed the plan of Ethiopian Airlines to launch a new route from Addis Ababa to Hanoi in July 2025. This is the first route directly connecting Vietnam with Africa.
Visiting Vietnam for the first time, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali thanked Vietnam for its warm and friendly welcome. He expressed his admiration for the Vietnamese people's history of steadfast struggle for independence and freedom and their remarkable achievements in development.
He hopes that Vietnam will share its experience in rapid and sustainable socio-economic development and environmental protection.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali said that the Prosperity Party is currently one of the largest political parties in Africa with more than 15 million members. He said that the two parties have similarities to share and learn from each other's experiences. The Party, State and Government of Ethiopia wish to develop cooperative relations in many fields with Vietnam, especially investment, science and technology, agriculture, education and training, and people-to-people exchange.

General Secretary To Lam welcomed the signing of a number of documents by both sides during the visit; he suggested that relevant agencies of the two countries actively negotiate and soon sign more documents to complete the legal framework, creating favorable conditions for promoting bilateral cooperation. The General Secretary also suggested that both sides soon open representative offices in each country to support the promotion of cooperation.

Earlier this afternoon, at the Presidential Palace, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife Le Thi Bich Tran hosted a welcoming ceremony for Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali and his wife Zinash Tayachew.


Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said the visit will contribute to strengthening friendship, bringing Vietnam-Ethiopia cooperation into a new stage of development.
Introducing to the Ethiopian Prime Minister an overview of Vietnam's socio-economic development situation, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that Vietnam is persistently implementing "three strategic breakthroughs" in institutions, human resources and infrastructure.
Faced with fluctuations in the global economic and trade tensions, Vietnam and Ethiopia need to promote dialogue and mutual understanding to continue diversifying markets and facilitating economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.


In its overall foreign policy, Vietnam always attaches importance to friendly relations with friendly countries in Africa, including Ethiopia.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said that Ethiopia considers Vietnam a foreign policy priority in the Asian region and wishes to develop bilateral cooperation with Vietnam in areas of strength and potential.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed acknowledged positive progress in economic cooperation with Vietnamese businesses initially showing interest in investing in Ethiopia.

The two sides agreed to discuss and negotiate basic agreements and arrangements to create a favorable legal corridor for economic cooperation, especially the Free Trade Agreement, the Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement, the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement, the Cooperation Agreement on Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention, etc.


The two Prime Ministers also agreed to discuss and introduce investment projects in potential areas such as telecommunications, digital transformation, cyber security, mining, industrial and consumer goods production, processing industry development, agricultural exports, civil construction, infrastructure development, education and training, healthcare, tourism, etc.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed welcomed and wished Vietnam a successful organization of the P4G Summit, contributing to global efforts on green and sustainable development. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam is ready to act as a bridge to promote cooperation between ASEAN and Ethiopia, and hopes that Ethiopia will support Vietnam in promoting relations with the African Union (AU) and Eastern African countries...
