General Secretary To Lam visits the Command of Coast Guard Region 4

On the morning of November 20, within the framework of a working trip to An Giang province, General Secretary To Lam and the Central working delegation visited and worked with the Command of Coast Guard Region 4 (Phu Quoc special zone).

Speaking at the working session, General Secretary To Lam emphasized that although the world and domestic situation continues to develop rapidly and complicatedly, with many new factors emerging, the Vietnam Coast Guard under the leadership of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense always promotes the good nature of Uncle Ho's soldiers, upholds the spirit of intelligence, courage, solidarity, overcomes difficulties, and successfully completes the task of protecting the sovereignty of seas and islands.

The Command of Coast Guard Region 4 promptly handled violations of the law at sea; especially in preventing and combating IUU fishing, search and rescue, etc. The results achieved have clearly demonstrated the role and strategic position of the Coast Guard force in the cause of protecting the Fatherland.

On behalf of the Party, State and Central Military Commission leaders, the General Secretary acknowledged the efforts and fighting spirit of the Vietnam Coast Guard, including officers and soldiers of the Coast Guard Region 4 Command. At the same time, he affirmed that the Central Committee always pays attention and creates conditions for the force to continue to excellently complete all assigned tasks.

Faced with new requirements in protecting national sovereignty, sovereign rights and jurisdiction at sea, the General Secretary requested the Vietnam Coast Guard, including Coast Guard Region 4, to perform well a number of key tasks.

Accordingly, it is necessary to regularly and thoroughly grasp the Party's policies and guidelines; improve the quality of political and ideological education; focus on building a contingent of cadres and soldiers who are strong in politics, ideology, organization and ethics, absolutely loyal to the Party, the Fatherland and the people, and ready to overcome difficulties to excellently complete their tasks.

The General Secretary requested to firmly grasp and correctly assess the situation; promptly and effectively advise the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense on policies and strategies in protecting sovereignty over seas and islands, maintaining security and order, ensuring compliance with Vietnamese laws and international treaties.

The Vietnam Coast Guard needs to promote the application of science, technology, and artificial intelligence; build a strong, streamlined organization, and clearly define key tasks. In addition, it is necessary to focus on improving the quality of training, exercises, and combat readiness; and proactively and effectively respond to traditional and non-traditional security challenges.

In the fight against crime and law violations at sea, the General Secretary requested determination, perseverance, and uncompromisingness, not letting criminals escape; strengthening the prevention of IUU fishing; and performing well the tasks of search and rescue and protecting the marine environment.

Besides, the force needs to strengthen coordination with functional forces, perform well the role of a solid support for fishermen to feel secure at sea, contribute to socio-economic development and protect the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.
